Forum rules
Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

Running From Running

A mini of mine and a simple comeback to editing after a few months.
Any feedback, just pl0x not along the lines of dull, awesome, too short.

Ignoring the urge to complain about the length, here's my criticisms. [And these are meant to help! I don't mean to sound rude or mean in my critique, but some people tell me that I am, so here's my qualifier]

First off, let me applaud you for using Sword of the Stranger. One of my favorites to see AMV's done with.

1) VIdeo quality and subtitles: The video quality wasn't very good, and it distracted from my overall enjoyment of the viewing. It wasn't HORRIBLE, but it was very blurry and grainy. I suggest reading the video guides for a more in depth explaination. Also around the :45 mark, there were two instances of subtitles, which distracted me from the viewing of the AMV. Try cropping them off and resizing the video's height next time if you use subtitled footage.

2) Inconsistant storytelling: The concept of the video wasn't very clear. It changed from action video, to drama to sentimental throughout the course of a 1:25 period. I think sticking to one type of concept would be better for the video.

3) Sync. From :30 to :38, it was very nicely edited, and I wish the rest of the video was like this. The video sync was tight and really awesome there, but before it and after it, it kind of fell apart. It lacked any sync really. It was more like random scenes on music to fit the atmosphere [and while that's usually an acceptable form of editing, the atmosphere just wasn't there for me. The audio/video except at :30-:38 didn't fit for me]. Here's another link to help you out, it's a very handy guide for any editor. It gives a good basis of sync.

I hope that was the feedback you wanted, and I do have to say that if you're using Sword of the Stranger, I have high hopes of seeing future works from you. =D

Ok... I have never seen the anime (my favorite genres are shoujo, yuri and yaoi... I'm girl after all :D ) but if Code says it is one of your favorites, I'll have to check it!

God... What can I say (Code said it all) Code has hopes in you, I too think you have potential... but you need to work harder at work editing, you need patience to edit and make things better, when you put a scene to make that scene is synchronized with the music, you have to set either the AR (aspect radio) and use sources have no sub, in order... have a lot to improve, and I can assure you that you can. :D

These are just tips!

O: I was hoping I could pull off those 2 spots with subs :ying: Otherwise I would have changed to 16:9 AR :o
Thanks alot for the feedback and I will work on these suggestions! ^-^

Subs are only acceptable if you add them yourself.

That being said, I had subs in my first videos as well. Of course hard subs are hard to avoid when working with early DVDs (I hate software sculptors) and VHS. You should not have this issue; you should be editing with DVDs.

Thanks and I finished reading through your guide So You Want To Be An Anime Music Video Editor?, a few days after I uploaded this. I'm still reading through a couple of guides, notably the first guide Code suggested. I'll make sure my future works have no subs left in. Thanks again! :amv:
