When you're at a loss for footage or specific scenes, you can always create it yourself. Like if you want a scene with characters from two different anime, you could always mask out a character and place them in another setting. Of course, it'll take a lot longer but if you don't want to be plagued with the fact that your video didn't come out the way you wanted it to, it's the best solution

Special effects are your friend.

Re: AMV kills immagination?
For example, I've a project that needs a chara profile of a killer. I can imagine all the video and special effects, but there aren't anime with the character with the look I'm looking for... I found "requiem for the phantom" that seemed to be perfect but when I watched it, it had many scenes useless and bad animation...Mastamind wrote:Special effects are your friend.

Re: AMV kills immagination?
My favorite videos to make and watch are videos that are essentially the AMV equivalent of literary analysis and criticism. If I do make alterations to the footage, it is always my intent to make it a very natural inclusion. Boy at the Piano is a good example of this. I did indeed have to create a few scenes by using masking and effects, but the feedback I received by those who saw it at Sakuracon was such that they only recognised that I had altered the video because they were such fans of the series. I respect alterations in drama videos that are both true to the editor's vision while also matching the style, flow, and continuity of the original source.

Re: AMV kills immagination?
Something like that is possible?
I have been working with very short sources and never had such problems... but then, my pieces are aiming more for mood. And I always have a good vision of what I want to do, sometimes knowing where to grab every scene.

Re: AMV kills immagination?
I've had the opposite experience since I started editing. I used to write all the time (stories, poems, etc) but after college my creative spirit just kind of died. Now I'm getting ideas all the time for AMVs. It's not quite the same, but my brain is working in the same creative capacity again and it feels great. It's like someone opened a window in a stuffy room

AMVs don't kill imagination. Imagination kills imagination.
