Re: I-CON 29 winner didn't get trophy :(
People actually in the US sometimes don't get awards from US conventions unless they pick them up there. Some editors I know who visited AWA this year picked up awards from many, many years past. It has very little to do with being in Hungary or Europe.
Most AMV contests do not seem to have a lot of funding, sometimes the coordinators have to pay shipping themselves. If you really want the trophy, try offering to pay for the shipping. Whatever you choose to do, it can only be handled by the contest coordinators or the convention staff, there's nothing that the forum users on this website can do to help you.

I always send out all my trophies and even check it the person got it for all my contests
It's easier if done right away after the event rather then later I find

....I agree

I won 27 (which was last years so you couldn't have won 29 as it hasn't occurred yet, I'm thinking you mean 28) it was nice because it was the first thing I entered and the first thing I won. While the contest isn't very large and is run a bit questionably from what I noticed afterwards I still got mine. Though I also live on the same island as the con so the shipping couldn't have been much. It still turned me off to the contest enough not to enter again unless I was actually going to attend. People not receiving their awards from various cons seem to be a common thing from what I hear but if it really bothers you you can try posting here http://www.iconsf.org/forum/

Then the problem is laying in the rules & regulation of several US conventions. What do I mean ?Ileia wrote:It has very little to do with being in Hungary or Europe.![]()
If they are opened for overseas contestants (this also should be marked somewhere that is opened, but anyway I usually ask this by mail before submission) also at least it would be fair to show somewhere that " Award shipping is not granted due to budget reasons" or sth like that. In this case you could know in advance what to expect when you submit sth. This little piece of extra info could avoid a lot of misunderstanding or disappointment -mainly for non-US contestants I think.
What I really do not like is the "I don't give a damn to you after the contest" attitude and the lack of honest communication in some cases. If shipping is a problem, well OK, no problem at all, it's really a reasonable situation just let us clearly know that. I do not consider clear and honest communication with a Contest organiser, when after my ask he/she states that "sure, shipping is not a problem, just wait a little and you"ll get it"....and after some month later the award is still under shipping...

Shouldn't be better for both parties if the coordinator clearly states in advance that this is not possible ?

And another reasonable thing: European contestants cannot just manage to simply jump to USA if there is a Con where he/she submitted something. Despite of -as you said - there is a little do with living in Europe

You completely missed my point.

My point simply being that it apparently happens all the time, to lots of people, no matter where they are from, not just to Europeans. I do not know why it happens, I am only supplying possible reasons and offering suggestions on how to help with the problem.

It has nothing to do with how much money you had, no one put a gun to your head and made you pledge money to the org and not actually go through with it.Shanaka wrote:OK, I get it... SO because I am poor, I won't get a trophy...

You said you were going to give money to the org, you didn't.
They said they were going to give you a trophy and didn't.
Then you post here saying
I was merely pointing out your hypocrisy. I already pointed you to the one forum you actually should post in and might be able to help you but as Ileia pointed out it's common.if they promised something, they should do it.

Re: I-CON 29 winner didn't get trophy :(
I have to agree, I don't see an issue with having to provide shipping everywhere, but if a contest says we will ship to winners anywhere and they don't then that is an issue. It's not about having to get stuff for winning, but not living up to what is advertised to begin with...
As for budgeting for shipping, if you say you will, then you should budget for contests to ensure you can... I always budget a larger amount for shipping and usually end up paying less (so like looks good to the con), but in case one year it's more, it's always covered..
One more thing if a contest has say trophies and ships them across the world, that alone is already a bigger valued prized then even other contests get at cons as shipping has to be calculated as part of that prize value... A few times I’ve heard people say “that all I get” when in fact calculating in the shipping it comes out to more then what even cosplay winners get in some cases
