I know I personally I always try to enter something new for pro and if I don't have anything new I don't enter. The last couple years the one pro video I make ends up being the only video I make all year. I might work on it off and on all year but its the only one I actually finish. I just can't crank them out like I used to... not enough time.

But I always find a way to make something specifically for pro.

I think this sort of attitude is making a lot of people lose interest in Pro. I've entered the last three years, and the contest has been pretty similar all three years. No one video stands out as being best, but that doesn't mean the contest as a whole is bad. The quality of the videos ranges all over the place - good, bad, great, terrible, just like with any contest.
I never said it was bad (you extrapolated that view from my statement on your own), more that there is a lot of video that have been around in contest then in recent years. Not that that is against the rules, but it just seems that there are less and less newer videos just for pro so the statement is more of a question that are there less and less people interested in pro, have less time to make new video, etc...

Generally Expo has been more of a "Dumping ground" in regards that all people's works of the past year have gone into it. My remark also reflects that maybe pro is being more like that as I actually see a lot more newer videos coming into Expo...

Having seem the pro contest for the past 9 years, the trend seems more obvious to me.

Calling it a dumping ground that no one had time to make a video for kind of sounds like you're saying it's bad. :P

Well, I suppose it is what it is, but if I can't even be honest and everything has to be taken negative then that's not good either

If anything, people should know that I am a huge supporter of this community in all aspects so I only mean to bring my thoughts to people's attention to see if that is where everyone wants to go...

Overall, I finding there seems to be less and less participation in contest in some ways with new material, however I also understand there are a LOT more contests out there begging for submissions and people seem to be more busier so it's more of a supply and demand issue too

If you want to talk about it some more at AWA, I’m all fine with that.. I never do get to spend a lot of discussion time with all you creators from Chicago much these days.

It does sound like a statement which bears negative connotations.

I'd just like to say that I made 2 new videos for Pro. I feel, what's the point in having blind judging if you allow older stuff to be submitted? They kind of defeat each other.
But if there is more new stuff submitted to Expo than to Pro, maybe it's because people start making things for Pro, but can't finish on time, so they complete it for Expo instead. Not everyone but I'm sure a fair number of people fall into this category. Not that there's anything that be done about That really.

Oh yeah, next year can we get chapter stops for each video when in "Play All" mode?

Yeah, jeez guys, what kind of person would send in an old video? That's just lame.

More than likely its the fact that the contest deadlines were anounced so late. I personally have made it a point to only submit videos I made specifically for pro in all past awas, and I ususally start them after the rules are formulated and deadlines post. (I usually use this as the que to get serious about finishing up my pro vid) But this year due to the late deadline posts, I bent that personal rule a little and just tweaked/changed a few things in my Otakon vid (which i havn't released online yet) for pro. I'm sure there are others thinking like me. (have any of those animethon vids been released online yet? I'm guessing some of them saw the late deadline post and just said, "I'll just enter my animethon vid so I can get the dvds...." ;p) That being said However, I do agree that pro should be all new stuff, preferably just for the contest. I think they should actually make this a rule, like with masters.

I did however manage to make something for masters this year ;p

As for the actual contest entries:
The only ones I can remember a day after watching disc1 are:

the smelly Otaku one (lol),
The Best Use of Repeated Footage Evah! "one (I might give this a vat award of same name if it dun win anything, I thought this was quite a creative way to do something thats generally looked down on ;p)
A kodacha one that was fun despite its obvious technical flaws,
A nana/beck/etc one that was pretty good,
One that made me want to kill people with Iphones,
And a teckinkreit one that was pretty solid.

otherwise the rest are a blur right now, however I was half sleepy when watching them lastnight. (I watch through the entire discs once, sometimes skipping the boring ones, before actually sitting down and actually judging each one individually)
