Shit. Godix took my idea and ran with it from #amv. I don't know whether to apologise or lol.

Well you know how I feel about it already but for everyone else who doesn't know this AMV yet, I highly recommend giving it a look at. It's definitely one of her best if not her very best AMV to date.
I'll try to remember to give you a full opinion soon! =)

Really liked it.
Thanks so much. I'm very glad you enjoyed it. ^_^Pas wrote:Aww yeah, a Melichan AMV O:
Couldn't really appreciate the song, but the editing was really nice and there was nice build-up throughout the vid. Loved the quote at the end, a nice sentimental AMV, keep it up

Video wasn't really my cup of tea...
bit cheesey :/
This video was actually made before the last one I released, which is the funny thing. It took me much much longer to release this one. I would have released it with my other one, had it made the Anime Boston finals along with the other. Then I ran into some technical difficulties. Anyways, thank you. It's a shame a few people don't like the song so far, but it's impossible for everyone to like one song (or one AMV).Eva-Fan wrote:ugh the sudden influx of angsty video's is gettin to me.
I don't really like the song... but if I were to put that bias behind me I bet I would of enjoyed this amv alot. Decent, I liked your last video ALOT more then this one.

Grabbing every emotional scene you can find in a series and slapping it into a video without ever really showing a cause for the emotion does not make it sentimental or particularly dramatic. If anything, crying for no reason is a possible sign of mental illness and a need for counseling and perhaps medication. Those women need some ativan at the very least. Rather than feeling whatever emotion you wanted me to feel I spent most of the video mentally trying to figure out which DSM classification the characters were. I'm leaning towards DSM IV 296.5 (bipolar, depressed), although it's rather hard to make a judgment off a short video like this. In addition to manipulating the mentally ill to try and score some cheap emotional points; the video is about as vapid, insincere, and trite as those people who end every conversation with 'god loves you'. If your target audience could actually believe in the message of your video then they wouldn't be in the group you're trying to target to begin with.
As a side note, I almost actually laughed out loud at the inherent sexism of the women being mentally fucked up and the big strong guy can make it all better. Seriously, the only way it could get more sexist is if one of them was preggers and making him dinner. This was especially amusing because any depressed males who view this video will, if anything, end up feeling even worse about themselves since they can't match up to Mr saves the day there. Also a nice boot to the teeth of anyone who's depressed because they just got dumped so has reason to believe no one loves them. Props to kicking the mentally ill while they're down, if only it were intentional I'd nominate it as a dark comedy in the VCAs.
Since you seem to be interested in the subject, you might want to read up on this case. That link isn't me being mean or sarcastic, it's actually a case that seems like it might be in your interests. If you want a link to the razor blade sale as well just let me know. They had some good deals.

I was talking to someone on the phone today before I logged into A-M-V.org and they said that someone was being wicked obnoxious and over the top in my announcement thread. I said, "Oh, yeah, I bet you anything that it's Godix." [10 seconds of silence go by] "Actually it really IS. How did you know?" He doesn't browse the forums much.Kionon wrote:Shit. WHOA WHOA! I was NOT expecting it to be like this over the top though. I know better than to take you TOO seriously Godix, but I won't lie that this comment... DID hurt. If by some chance you DO believe all of what you just said you must really think I'm a terrible person with evil intentions and sorry if I offended you.
Now, I can go into great detail on explaining how this video is NOT sexist, NOT pro-suicide, etc., but I'm not going to bother because for you to put that much effort into trying to make what was a good intention seem like the complete opposite, I doubt you'd care for what I have to say. Besides, it will probably turn into a back and forth argument like I see all the time on video announcements and there is no point.
I don't mind criticism and it's fine that you do not like the video, but I was not expecting that. Judging by what Kionon said about the #AMV Review or whatever, I don't think I want to even read it. o.O Kionon and others, if you felt the same way... I'm sorry you thought this way about my video. Comments seem to be getting more and more negative for everyone's videos the more I read threads on the announcement board...

Wow. A simple concept for a video that thousands of editors have done before has been blown way out of proportion and will probably make this be a 8-9 page thread before it is eventually locked. Nice work Melichan. (that wasn't sarcasm, I really mean that)
I'm not going into how this video isn't what Kio or Godix described it as, because Melichan didn't. Videos are open to interpretation, but's it a pretty grim interpretation if you ask me. O_o
Would it have been any different if instead of a man solving the problem it was a woman? No. But apparently chivalry these days is viewed as anti-feminism, and as long as a girl solves a girl's problem it's ok, but when a man does it, he's a pig.

I found it pretty random.
Not bad though, a simple normal amv.

I thought it was nice. Wasnt too fond of the song like the others and thought it dragged on a bit long, but it was a pleasant watch. Needed sum Fuuko though /totallynotbiased

I do think it isnt necessary to enter that many cons though, comes across as trolling to a lot of people. Just thought id point that out.

Eh, there are worse things in an announcement thread than a series of posts discussing the video. But you don't have to bother explaining why the video isn't what I portrayed it as, I was reading the subtext and I don't think you intentionally put that subtext in there. So of course you don't agree with me.Besides, it will probably turn into a back and forth argument like I see all the time on video announcements and there is no point.
It was an offhand conversation, not a review. I hadn't even watched the video at that point.I don't mind criticism and it's fine that you do not like the video, but I was not expecting that. Judging by what Kionon said about the #AMV Review or whatever, I don't think I want to even read it.
That was the point. The target audience for the message in the video are people who aren't seeing the world in a normal way. If they were, they wouldn't be suicidal because someone called them a name. I think there's a high chance they're gonna pick up on the subtext that I did rather than the rather trite primary message. Especially if they're depressed because they got dumped so they feel no one loves them. Showing them this video would be like showing Footloose to a legless man. No matter what your intentions actually were, what you're doing is just rubbing their nose into what they don't have.Code wrote:Videos are open to interpretation, but's it a pretty grim interpretation if you ask me. Chivalry is sexist. How is treating someone differently just because of their sex not sexim? So yes, big strong man making everything all better for crying girl is sexist. If girl made everything better for big crying man it wouldn't be sexist, but it'd still be rather trite and stupid. How about a video where crying girl or guy makes everything all better for themselves?Would it have been any different if instead of a man solving the problem it was a woman? No. But apparently chivalry these days is viewed as anti-feminism, and as long as a girl solves a girl's problem it's ok, but when a man does it, he's a pig.

I made some jokes about the above, but I really didn't mean them, and I would not have ever put them in the thread, which is why I said I felt like I should apologise. On the other hand, godix did take my commentary to the point of absolutely hilarity, so I want to laugh.Melichan923 wrote:I don't mind criticism and it's fine that you do not like the video, but I was not expecting that. This was, in my opinion, a vast improvement on Move Along, just from a technical standpoint. I couldn't get into it, which is what prompted the commentary that caused godix's diatribe. I felt bad about it, but I really did want to laugh half the time. Since I am honestly not as callous as godix, the fact that I was laughing at your video, one that was clearly intended to address a grave concern, did in fact generally make me feel... well... like I was going to Hell.
I enjoyed the video. It was funny. I just don't think that's what you were going for.

Re: You Are Loved (Anime Mid Atlantic 2009: Best Drama)
It's sad, and I don't think I've ever said it before, but I agree with alot of the topics godix brought up. For an emotional vid, I need to feel more of a story line going on, this was a compilation of sad girls crying, without really knowing the reason behind this I can't really get emotionally involved in the video. I think it might have worked out better if you had stuck with one or two animes and fleshed out your story a bit more.
Also I really couldn't see this helping anyone who was depressed or suicidal as your dedication is intended, people who are suicidal cannot and shouldn't be relying on other people to get them through it, depression is something you need to work on yourself, depression is a disease, and if I were dying of cancer I doubt a hug could cure me. And I would imagine any normal person who were just dumped and looking towards this to lift their spirits would feel even more depressed because they just lost the person who 'loved them'. For instance the boy you talk about in your vid description I doubt would really have benefited as he (and alot of the cyber bullying cases I've read about) had a person proclaim to like them only for the wool to be removed from their eyes and it having been cruel joke to torture them with. I doubt having that happen to him, to then feel as if he were unlovable and no one wanted him, to see someone proclaiming the cure to their depression is having a mate who cares for you, the one thing they have tried for and was unable to obtain would just worsen their outlook. It's like if someone was sad because their parents just died so to cheer them up you showed them a compilation of sad anime characters being comforted by their parents. It just doesn't work.
That being said I think none of this was your intention obviously, and wouldn't even been a factor if not for your dedication, but something to think about if you intend to actually show this to anyone who is depressed as a way to make them feel better. Editing I thought was really good, you set the mood and flow quite well. While the lack of story line does bother me, for what you were trying to achieve I think your scene selection was good. I just need more for a drama vid to feel invested in it's characters, if it were a dance upbeat vid with no story thats fine, I know everyones just dancing because Michael Jacksons dead and their children are safe, but with drama I need a bit more personally. Quality was great. Song choice made my ears bleed but you can't pick something everyones going to like. A tad on the cheesy side and a bit long for what it was but overall it was a good video and worth the watch.

This video was very inspirational for me. I'm not sure how soon I can act on that inspiration, but trust me, I will. Just to be clear, is the scene where the girl's crying onstage from Kanon?
