AMV Salad 3: Three Bean Casserole - mp4 now available

Post by Squancho » Thu Jun 11, 2009 8:58 pm

This is what everyone was asking for: an mp4 download. I rendered using H264/AAC and, according to the download test, there seems to be no lag between audio and video. It even came in at just under 100mb. Crazy stuff. What's crazier is that this video plays smoothly on TV from DVD as well as through a typical convention projector, in spite of what it may look like from the computer monitor.

On top of all that, some minor timing and visual glitches have been cleaned up since the Megavideo fiasco.

Anyway, go forth and download...

(there were eleven other co-conspirators involved)

The theme: Commercials and Trailers
The premise: monkeys took over the [adult swim] control room for 21:31.
The beta-test: AMV Salad 2 panel at Anime Mid Atlantic, the final stop of the annual AMVS convention circuit.
The official premiere: Otakon 2009 during fan parodies.
The sick part: AMV Salad 4 begins production July 20. Like, damn...we just got this one done, and under some unexpected pressure due to excessive computer trauma no less.

I just hope you enjoy this. And be sure to stay after the credits for a parting shot.

Constructive criticisms welcomed as always...

What the hell... was that?
Bite me

It felt like a bad copy of AMV Hell. I think that's what it was.

let me sit around watching a bad AMV Hell rip off on a low quality stream... or no?

Honestly, I sat through the first 10 minutes and just went to close it out.
1) horrid quality. It says that if we want a download, we can PM you. Why not save the hassle and just upload it?
2) I really didnt find it funny at all. I was straight face when watching it the entire time. Only one part was able to get a smirk out of me.
Spoiler :
mudkip - death note part

I'm a little more easily amused. I chuckled and even laughed once or twice, but all in all it wasn't that funny.

As soon as I figure out how to bring a 21:31 video to within allowable limits for the 'org,...anyway, this isn't the permanent video source. I still have more rendering to do and then I'll upload and link it from the profile.

hasteroth: can't please everyone, but I never expected to. I haven't watched AMV Hell since 4 came out.

LittleAtari:
The plan is to upload as soon as a decent render comes out. I'm trying every codec at my disposal and the end result is always the same. The video you saw was originally mpeg2 and interlaced (upper field)...no difference. It doesn't look like that when played back through Vegas 7, though. Lagarith causes the video to stutter badly. As much as I hate to blow up my storage, I may have to give HuffYUV another shot, then compress through VDM to ease the burden (12GB for a 21-minute video file...damn!). Anyway, as stated above, I'm open to suggestions. And not everything has to be funny, although I'd have preferred it. I admittedly chose a tough theme to work with.

This project always does better in front of a live audience somehow, so I'm not completely worried. I'd still like to make sure I have a prime product, which is why I even bothered to release this now (thinking I'd find some useful technical advice or whatever)... :?

Learn to compress. Here's your best options: Xvid 2-pass with Lame MP3 audio at 128 kb/s or (better yet) an MP4 from Zarxgui. You are not going to get a 21 minute video to under 100 MB. It's not possible unless you lower the resolution of the video. For a 21 minute video, I am sure that the Org admins will approve the large upload request. Also, there's MEGAUPLOAD for DLing large file sizes.

What worries me the most is the jagged transitions and the choppy quality during faster action. There has to be some kind of fix for it, but I'll try your methods first. My computer went down a couple weeks ago so I lost some things. I have a bit more reinstalling to do, I guess...
