I only have room for one right now, but both of my desks at work have dual-screens. It's pretty useful for coding and associated software tasks.

Think about it this way, single monitors are like going through life using just one arm. Duel monitors allows you to use both arms. Sure, you can live life with one arm, but it's a hell of a lot better with two.

While I usually work with one monitor, whenever I work with two, I find it to be a lot easier. I usually will preview the video at full resolution on one and have my timeline on the other. Depending on how high the resolution of the video and how big my timeline, I sometimes will put my trimmer on the same screen as the preview along with some other stuff. It definately helps. If you continuously need to click and drag your preview to get out of the way and then put it back to get a full preview (which is what I go through), then having dual monitors is awesome.

I want three...

I've been using two monitors for years. It helps a lot overall, not just for editing. I don't think I could go back to just one.

I like using two monitors, pretty much for the same reasons already mentioned. It really does help the work flow, etc.

Its definitely useful for everything. For programming I have the source code on one monitor and the debugging window or references on the other so I don't have to keep alt tabbing, for editting, one monitor gets the entire preview window while the other gets the timeline, its a lot more productive when you have more space =)

I've been wanting to use two but it gets hot enough in this room. TV, PS3, External, Compy... Florida... :| oh and summer right around corner . Got enough of a heat concern here and don't want to buy a window a/c unit. Just something else to consider if your room gets kinda hot as it is.

Triple monitor FTW!

I recently discover that there's an option in the BIOS that allows you to use both your video card and your motherboard VGA-out.

:D
