To kinda give people my mindset, and no offense to Jay, but i didn't really like his all cut/no fades video all that much. For the most part it was fine, but there were those times it just kills me to not see a fade in there at certain points and it ruins it.

Obvious lies.

Next time, there won't be any cuts or fades. Just one long scene.

I did do a h264 encode and it wasn't much better, maybe only 10mb smaller. I will try again when kero is back up but don't count on it as it takes a long time to encode 8 1/2 minutes of video. So, making one encode and looking at the qaulity over and over again takes a long time.

The Quality wasnt much better? strange. and no you dont need to i've already seen it and given it a op.

Quality vs file size: it was only about 10mb less... that's pocket change.

Which also always makes me complain about people complaining, I mean, the length? Really? I've said this in about every thread where an AMV uses a song longer than 6mins: how can you be so ADD? Isn't that rather more embarassing for you than for the creator?

I'm one of those people who hates to sit and watch a long video. Most of the time they don't flow well enough to hold my attention. A long video should keep someone watching and when it's over, you wont realize it was really that long.

Well back to the video, I'm also one of the people that hasn't seen much of Macross, mainly because it just isn't something I'm interested in content-wise. And I also usually detest Anime music, but this one was actually tolerable, it was still nerdy but the nostalgic and sentimental feeling definately reached me. On the technical side I'd pretty much second what JCD said about the crossfades. In your video info you're complaining about not having enough room to fit in characters and yet you have these really long fades that just seem to show almost still images of people watching the skies...I mean, it's not like you couldn't have picked up the pace a bit there.

If i had added the 10+ other characters I wanted to add, then the video would be more of a random pile of scenes with no direction... there's not enough time to do what I wanted, no matter how tight my edits could be or wither or not I used crossfades when I did.

About 80% of an anime are still shots of characters moving their mouths or looking up at the sky. You can't make a multi-character profile/sentimental video using only scenes where planes are blowing up and people are shooting guns. I understand what you are saying but for anyone who thinks that's all those shots are, they need to think a little bit harder. A still shot can say a lot about what a character is thinking and feeling.

In overall I'd say when it comes to your goals for this video they've been reached, but personally I'd rather watch a detailed 7min video on a single show of these so that it could create a bit more depth for the people that don't know what the fuck all of those scenes really 'mean'.

I am thinking about doing a video for each series.

As for Basara's lipsync, most of the scenes i used were from the OVA episode when he's actually singing the song >.> I was more worried that people would criticize the Minmei sync cause she never sings the song in the series.

I think the reason Minmei's lip sync worked for me while his didn't was because Minmei actually has a microphone when we see her, so it comes off as much more natural.

Granted I've never seen Macross, but I didn't how much of it you'd used until I saw the credits, and for me it all seemed really well connected.

Admittedly, I haven't seen most of the Macross series that's in this video. Despite that, I absolutely enjoyed watching this AMV. I haven't really seen many Macross vids that focus mainly on the more dramatic side of the shows.

I haven't posted here cause I didn't just want to reiterate the same things everyone has already been saying, but after watching the video a few times, I guess I can't help it :\
I'm usually not one for long videos cause people can't usually pull them off, but with this vid, I didn't find myself getting bored at all, it all flowed nicely together and kept my attention throughout :3 (and still does after multiple viewings). I haven't seen macross so I'm not familiar with any of the characters or relationships, but I still enjoyed the vid alot, and can imagine it would have been so much more had I seen even half of the series.

I do have to say, that your audio edit is really friggin awesome. Even knowing what you did and listening for the differences, it still kicked my ass, so awesome job on that :3

I haven't seen macross so I'm not familiar with any of the characters or relationships, but I still enjoyed the vid alot, and can imagine it would have been so much more had I seen even half of the series.

I think for most people, if they had seen most of them already, Macross 7 would be the one they haven't seen. Knowing that, I did try try to tie those scenes together more then the others so the viewer would at least feel more comfortable able. Have no idea if that worked though, lol.

I really wonder if anyone noticed my references to previous scenes during the second half: the scene at 5:01 and 6:33 reference back towards the beginning where Mylene (pink hair) gives Gamlin (short blue hair) her pendant for good luck (2:55). Also, 4:50 references to 4:00 when Gamlin gives Mylene the ring which is a little less obvious but I wanted it to be a little subtle so if anyone noticed they would be all, "oh hey, that's the ring from before!".

Finally got around to watching this, and it was fantastic. I really dug the audio; if you hadn't said anything, I would have thought that it was the original song. Most of the lip sync felt kinda forced, but I can forgive that because of the scream sync around 6:30.

Two other bits that really caught my attention were the solo and the jetpack sound effect sync. I can't really remember much of the particulars of the solo except that it was such a contrast from the earlier part of the video. My attention was starting to fade, but that burst of energy in the video brought me back in just in time. As for the jetpack, was that sound effect in the song already, or did you add that in? It was a really neat touch.

I can't say I'll be watching this often, considering how long it is, but I'll definitely come back to it from time to time. Well done sir.

I didn't add any sound effects so that was in the songs... It was even in the karaoke version if I remember correctly. Thanks for the comments Kit.
