How do you mean?
I think that the largest movement of MAD scene is well known for its use of stills from Visual Novels. Yes, I have seen some MADs with used anime, but their numbers were fairly lower. Of course, I can't say it's right, maybe they just export the VN ones and keep anime ones in Japan!

For the first one - I just wrote what I think the usual AMV user (who knows what MAD is) is reminded of when he hears this term.

Ok, serious post now.

Crossover: A video combining two or more sources interacting with each other as opposed to having different scenes from different sources. Most of the effects are accomplished by "masking" which is taking a character or an object from one source and putting it in another. Examples: Senshi on Springer and Tainted Donuts.

AWA: Short for Anime Weekend Atlanta, the convention with the most emphasis on amvs due to it's Video Art Track. Has the largest gathering of amv editors from all over the world each year. (not serious)It's pronounced "A-Wah" and not "A-double u-A" thanks to mexicanjunior's pronounciations :P(/not serious)

How about "Orphan Frames." (Is that even the right term?) Frames that editor obviously never intended to be part of their video. They usually occur when a cut in the video coincides with the end of the scene in the source footage and one or two frames from the next scene slip in.

I'm curious as to the term "Golden Donut". Anyone care to explain?

@coffee54 I think that is the correct terminology. For some reason I had thought it was 'pop frame'

@crackthesky The golden Donut was the name of the local download system durring its implementation. The test phase was called the dangling carrot if I remember correctly..

It's not still called that?

Correct.

Also, "popframe" ought to be included as an alias for "orphan frame". And where's "Hosatchel"?

And do we need to get into the difference between seishiga-MADs and douga-MADs?

I've also heard them referred to as jumpframes, although not nearly as often and not the internet.
