Driven to Paranoia

Post by Animated » Thu Dec 04, 2008 7:10 am

Video : Driven to Paranoia
Category : Action, Fun, Character Profile
Anime : Paranoia Agent
Song : Over my Head - Sum 41
Creator : ...me, Animated24

One and a half months of boredom to make this video...

...And i enjoy it every time i see it now! One or two special effects, pure paranoia. The fact is, i always had in mind making a video that will get a lot of opinions, in order to be in the Top 10% videos :D , so after a lot of trial and error, i write now all of this! Let it be YOU who will make an opinion on my video! (Haha...ahem...yup ^^)

Enjoy! (and let me know if it was worth one and a half months of editing...)

Ok, wow, for a 100 MB file, that is the WORST video quality have ever seen.

That said, I can pretty much tell you right now that this is never going to make the Top 10%...for one, ALL the effects you used in the video are obvious stock, and none of them are used in a way that helps the video. For all intents and purposes, it seems like they were just thrown in for the hell of it. They don't serve any other purpose besides sync, and look crappy the whole time.

As for sync, well, I suppose I can't complain from a technical standpoint...it was all spot-on. However, I thought the video was WAY oversynched, and none of it surprised me. It was all external, effects-driven sync with no purpose. The video wasn't very smooth as a result, and certain synching methods (such as the flashes on the drum rolls) were just way too predictable to do anything for me.

The concept/story was...okay, I guess. I guess I shouldn't be too critical here, I made a PA video with a similar concept (though entirely different execution), most Paranoia Agent videos kinda boil down to the same thing. It worked well enough, and it was clear enough, but the editing and effects usage just didn't really go together with the concept very well.

Overall...I'd give this a 2/5, but just barely. You're going to have to refine your style a lot and be a bit more original to get on the Top 10%. This mighta swung it four or five years ago, but today no one's going to notice this one, sorry.

P.S. - You really, REALLY gotta work on compressing your video. 100 MB for a 720x480 video (it's supposed to be widescreen, cut off those letterboxes and make the AR 4:3!) that's 2:35 is about three times as big as it should be. You should definitely read the guides.

first i want to say that it is normal to work more than one and a half months to make a good video.

now something about your video  :
maybe it was because i don't know the anime, but somehow the video was a little confused.
except for a few excessively effects at the beginning the video was ok.

maybe you make it to get 10 opinions

Haha I almost fell out of my chair laughing when watching this video. I admire your enthusiasm and all but I'm siding with Crackers on this one. With that said I'm going to have to apologize as well. Normally I'd be all for tearing you a new one over a video like this. But I just cant right now, simply because its too funny. So no spectacle for today. I'd say just keep working on it and maybe one day you'll reach your goal. But this video will not be your ticket into the "almighty" Top 10% list.

Thnx I haven't laughed this hard in a few days :ying:

PS- The teeth grinding triggered a nosebleed wewt...

Have fun on whatever you do, but please don´t wonder about bad comments. You might want to look again into "the allmighty top 10%" list and ask yourself what makes the good one unique and good and the bad ones.... well bad, because effects and sync to death don´t equal a good video.

Uhm... Yeah I better get it too for a good laugh I guess. :|

I liked it. >.>

*dodges tomatoes*

What do they say, "Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars." which doesn't even make any sense, since stars are waaaaayyyy farther away than the moon.

What I thought the video lacked, was purpose.

I mean, thats what art is, right? (not calling AMVs art, whole 'nother discussion) It's just that when people put an effort behind things, put a reason behind every decision, they are noticed and respected for it (in an art community). I can appreciate the sync in this video, your attention to timing etc etc, but the effects and scene selection were coming out of left field! I didn't catch on, maybe others have. Crack, what story did you see? Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention. Either way, Animated24: your story/purpose wasn't clear, and thats equal parts failure on both of us. The best you can hope for is to eliminate your half.

Anyway, I'm gonna give this a 2.5 out of 5, because honestly I've seen A LOT worse, but I've seen an equal number of videos that are A LOT better. Keep trying!

I liked it.
It has certain flaws (terrible size, oversynched, black fades abuse) but it also has nice song, tight editing, good flow (apart from some lol moments which I think were in purpose XD) and there's a connection between lyrics and amv theme.

Now for your goal about top 10% you must understand that creators' mentality towards amvs has changed over the years.A good video now must have new effects, not stock ones, inspiring masking (this is one of the guides to top 10%) or at least innovative execution/theme. Your vid was good, I have already watched it over 10 times (Sum 41 ftw!!) but it needs a facelift and a change of editing style at some points...

mellechampion,Paranoia Agent is just like the video depicts.Falling into paranoia, trying to get away from harsh reality, wishes substituted by despair,a constant fight against invisible enemies, ourselves,a general chaos...And the lyrics of the song fit with PA's theme so I don't really understand why there's no story.

4/5 for me but LEARN TO COMPRESS...
I have Paranoia Agent in the same quality so I don't argue about the quality of your video. But the size is terrible...
It should have been around 35-45MB even with avi, much lesser if you exported it in mp4 following the guides...

well, thanks for the truthful comment. I just love black fades  The bad compression was indeed a big fault... (gonna change it to a higher quality mp4 version - 35 mb 8-) )

So, until my next amv...
vote for animated24!
