Multilingual User guides

Normally I would have been slightly irked by the typical "I'm new and can't be bothered reading the guides so people please do my work for me 'cause I'm too lazy" type post in this thread
BUT it raises an interesting point, considering that this is an international community with many editors highly adept at both english and their primary language, it got me thinking that it shouldn't be too hard to translate guides like "EADFAG" (moreso the new beta version) into French/German/Russian etc.

What do ya think?

If there is an initiative to do that, I would pitch in the Russian part.

I would also support translating some key VCA-related pages, seeing how international participation in VCAs had been kind of big.

I don't think any of this is absolutely crucial to the .org, but if there's official will and support, I'll back it up.

I know that there is a french version of this guide (maybe it´s the old 2.0 version) and the german community of amv.de already made a smaller guide in german. I think it was JCD who wrote it. This site might want to link to these external guides?

It´s not a bad idea, but consider: This is a lot of work to translate the guide!

On a semi-serious note, I wonder if the admins would put up a guide in a language they don't know. I'm not sure how far 'Trust me, it doesn't say anything bad. It's a straight translation. Honest' will go...

Putting stuff up is reasonably easy, but this issue did cross my mind.

I'm pretty sure Krat had to be given mouth to mouth after the last time he saw my attempts at French and died of laughter there's always the possibility that he was just after the CPR chest groping tho, and it wasn't because my french sucks harder than pearl harbour but I doubt it

I didn't mean to limit it to those languages btw (just that there are stong amv editing communities where people speak those 3 and they popped to mind first)

If you are worried about something bad being written in it you could always ask another member to proof read (preferably not someone on the payroll/in cahoots with the writer) it or alternatively ask anyone else you know that is multilingual. Getting jaded in your old age I see

This is an international community and I am a little supprised that this hasn't been done already, although it's easy enough for people to follow things on the forum here using bablefish or some other translation website, the user guides are too complex to translate with those means. So where there are guides already like the French and German one you could add a link (probably in that language that the guide is in - I still lol when I see "if you dont know English click here" written in english ) that should be too much hassle should it o.O?

What other Languages have an amv community... Japanese, Spanish?

I know of Czech AMV Wiki, which has some tuts and list of some Czech AMVers, if you want to link it, though... small country has a small AMV scene, of course...

I have written some small guides to some basic stuff (ar, avisynth, using some programs in the amvapp...) in an Italian forum I visit... but well, I did think about actually translating in Italian the eadfag 3 when there will be a finished version... it'd take its time, but I'd do it.

I don't see how that really HAS to be an issue. Unless the translator is godix, who I always thought was monolingual

And with a lot of languages, especially Italian, German or French, it'd be still kinda easy to tell if it did say something bad!
