Pianos said it allready:
Piano: Probably technological aspect will progress even further. Moreover, technical aspects may move away from the actual contents of a video. I do not want this to happen.
Soon there is gonna be a ratio of 20% anime content or less and 80% shiney shit in videos. An actuall concept or theme wont even be necesary in the video as long as people are WOW'd with the FX and beat sync/flow.
I think a majority of people are just trying to WOW people with FX in their amv's or rather they feel if they dont use it their amv's wont be up to par with the rest of em. The focus of anime and music comparison in the video is being lost and it's just getting worse.
Anime Music Video's will just become more and more FX Music Video's as more unique programs become available and technogoly advances. The fact that people are talking about new kinds of FX along with the evolution of amv's is just proof. If you wanna call that evolution of ANIME music videos then by all means...

"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

Yes, on this days, the amvs with 3d animations are very cool, and
probably, next year will be some kind of sensation and they will superate
a lot of good amvs....but even if i know that, i keep with the "mask"...
With that tool you can make a lot of effects at the same level of 3d videos....
Well, i dont know if this comment will be valid in 2 or 3 years...
We're going to be consumed by technology AaAhh!! xD
(Dont laugh for my horrible english, please -.-)

With all due respect to Pianos, he's a M@D creator. His viewpoint is quite different. M@Ds have long been seen as a means of expression usuing original animation and heavy effects with the basis of some animation's particular character set. Often times done for humour value, or as a reference to some other literary work entirely, anime or otherwise. My coworker doesn't get romances or sentimental videos. He is, by his own admission, floored that we could have even come to the idea of dramatic AMVs. He says he and his circle don't get what I do, even though they've seen my work, and the work of others here on the org.
I do indeed think popular AMVs are trending that way but that's largely because of the viewers. I do not think the comunity as a whole is trending that way. If anything, I would say that the general populace is trending towards whatever they can manage to produce on their own with fansubs and WMM/iMovie. And that means Naruto action videos, or Inu Yasha romances. It does not mean 20% anime footage and 80% original content/effects. Perhaps among those in the community that are "known" we can say this is happening, but even many of those "known" editors have projects that are trending in the other direction. Case in point, I'll mention kewp, because everyone else does. Paper Image is a clear attempt to trend the opposing direction.
