Most Prestigious AMV Contest?

Post by XiaoMovieMaker » Sun Aug 10, 2008 12:44 pm

Out of curiosity, which amv competition is the most prestigious?
I'd assume one with trophies / plaques along with prizes of some sort.

Thanks for the help~

AWA's Short Attention Span Theater is the most prestigious :P.

...in all seriousness, there is no 'most prestigious' and anyone who says otherwise is thinking too much about it.

There may not be any contest that's objectively the most prestigious, but you can't deny that some contests get more attention from editors than others. A few contests every year get "exclusive" entries while the rest have to hope they're in the right place and time to receive 2nd- or 3rd-time submissions of the videos that didn't already win somewhere else.

For me personally, a "prestigious" contest would have to at least:
1. be well-run by its coordinator
2. draw in a lot of good entries

#2 is really what makes it happen, but it cannot exist without #1 being satisfied first.

that depends on how you want your videos judged

well, i assume it's either judged by the audience, the creators, or the coordinators.
i would guess that if it's judged by creators / coordinators you can gain more respect, and likely win an accolade...

bigger = better?
don't you know that's not always true?
there could be private competitions that aren't held at conventions, but at private screenings [not sure, but just throwing it out there >___>]

Oh I won't deny it. I was just trying to preemptively prevent a Con X is better than Con Y or some bullshit like that which this thread will ultimately degenerate into.

I won't lie, I have my favorites, but that by no means they're 'superior' or anything other than *I* like them ;).

...I hope that made sense.

The only contest that consistently produces good results is the 'what doesn't suck enough for me to delete it off my HD?' contest. Very few winners but those winners tend to be really really good.
