In other news, William Shatner tells Trekkies to get a life.

Haters?
Really?
Really?
Brakkus.
You really, seriously, do not know what you are talking about here.
Trust me.
Ignoring the actual people involved. the way you deal with people who don't like AMVs is you leave them alone.

Als Gregor Samsa eines Morgens aus unruhigen Träumen erwachte, fand er sich in seinem Bett zu einem ungeheueren Ungeziefer verwandelt.

What inspired this response? Just because he's your friend doesn't mean people he insulted with his public comments have to STFU. Brakus shouldn't have dubbed him a "hater" on the basis of one tired complaint. This is still an amv forum. And your friend dismissed the amv hobby the way my mother might have dismissed bell bottoms (before they came back).Kionon wrote:This person you refer to, he and I may have our differences of opinion on AMVs but he's one of my oldest friends, and I do not consider him a "hater" at all. And he has a sometimes obscure sense of humor. He might have been kidding.
Regardless, just STFU.
Not that I took offense at it personally. I snorted at the "sure, I might have found it cool back in the day but then I grew up" part. That's just ironic after reading the really long thread here about how you're never too old to make amvs. ;p
You don't. You remember the name and shy away from it in the future. If you'd named him I guess you could push people to avoid anime conventions he helps run in the future. That's the only thing to do - avoid, boycott, ignore. You can't change his opinion, so why care? One person somewhere else doesn't like it, lots of people on the org do. Doesn't make a bit of difference.Brakus wrote:My question: how do you deal with people like that?

I'm supprised that hadn't been mentioned yet...hater wrote: Disregard... you know the rest
There's really little context around the comments on the journal(blog thing).. general rant? bad mood? had his period? w/e or just he'd been annoyed and wanted to make a statement or say what he was thinking... either way who cares, like the others said let him have his opinion. In 10 years I'm sure I'll prolly look back on this as a childish waste of time myself... in the meantime /me boots premiere
new banzors in the making :p

How to deal with haters? hmm... well personally I deal with haters the same way I deal with most people, I ignore the comment and if I need to continue interaction with the person, I finish up the buisness as fast as possible and keep the conversation away from that subject. In this case I believe that others have already stated all that I could have said. maybe this guy was just annoyed with all the questions from people. Think about all of a hundred little kids asking you individually about the same thing over and over and over...

it would be hard to get people to boycott AWA, even if this guy doesn't like AMVs he has done a lot for the AMV Community.Arigatomina wrote:If you'd named him I guess you could push people to avoid anime conventions he helps run in the future. That's the only thing to do - avoid, boycott, ignore.

I swear I misread topic title as "Dealing with taters"...
Anyways, you shouldn't expect people to always like AMVs... for example, there's people which likes anime, but doesn't really like amvs 'cause they say they don't get anything from an anime set to a song, they just want to watch the anime, period. Or, there's people that thinks that if they want to listen a song, they just put it on their mp3 reader/iPod/whatever and if they wished to watch a music video of it, they'd just watch the original one on MTV or YouTube.
