Random thought of the day
As everyone surely knows it's a fad to use effects for the noise, dust & scratches, etc from what things looked like during the early film era. Which means we are intentionally trying to emulate the limitations in video quality of earlier technology. Which makes me wonder, anyone want to take a bet on at what point will people intentionally add interlacing artifacts, mosquito noise, and macroblocking in their videos to emulate our current limitations?

Well, since our theater films and whatnot don't have interlacing and that other stuff future generation will never add that to videos to give it the nostalgic feel. People add that effects because it's easily recognizable as something that means a flashback or something that happened to the past.
There is my serious comment to your prolly at least half jokingly made thought.

Five bucks* says right about the time we start compressing our videos as .mp18's
*which by then will be worth about eight cents.
Although, really, musicians do much of the same thing as well. It seems like as soon as we get past the initial amazement of our revolutionary new technology, we get nostalgic for whatever we had before, however crappy it may have been.
At some point maybe some car manufacturer will start producing a mock Model-T...

I don't know about you, but seems like half the time I go to a theatre, it's obvious they're playing a dvd, NOT film. Interlacing there. Pixels there. etc.NerdStrudel wrote:Well, since our theater films and whatnot don't have interlacing and that other stuff

At last year's ACen, I believe it was Kalium who was talking about how DrngdKreationz purposely left the interlacing in his video Olin as an effect, which is one of the few reasons I hate that video.godix wrote:Which makes me wonder, anyone want to take a bet on at what point will people intentionally add interlacing artifacts, mosquito noise, and macroblocking in their videos to emulate our current limitations?

It was either that, or I heard that he reinterlaced the finished video. Or something.CrackTheSky wrote:At last year's ACen, I believe it was Kalium who was talking about how DrngdKreationz purposely left the interlacing in his video Olin as an effect, which is one of the few reasons I hate that video.godix wrote:Which makes me wonder, anyone want to take a bet on at what point will people intentionally add interlacing artifacts, mosquito noise, and macroblocking in their videos to emulate our current limitations?
