Saber Marionette J&Final Fantasy 12-My First Submissions

Post by theladyphoenix » Mon Jun 30, 2008 12:38 pm

Hello! I am new to the community, and have been gradually learning how to make AMV's for the last year or so. I recently acquired Adobe Premiere, though I haven't yet begun using After Effects, and this is my first submission on this site. I still consider myself a humble novice to the art, but I'm hoping that by publishing here and getting feedback and suggestions, I can learn and improve and grow.

I know my video is hideously sub-par compared to some of the videos I have seen on this site, but I am really looking for some constructive criticism and maybe a little encouragement that I don't totally suck. I plan to start experimenting with After Effects from now on, so hopefully my video quality will go up from here on out!

So.... here's hoping for some feedback! Thanks!

Edit: Since browsing the site more, I've noticed there are a fair amount of video game AMV's. Since I did quite a few of these, I'd love some critiques on them as well. So I am putting up one of my favorites for review as well. Enjoy!

As always, feedback and critiquing, please! I really want to improve.

It's my favorite anime of all time. :) I hope you like my effort at doing it justice!

Hmm... I got mixed feelings on this one.

First off, I adore this song. It's a remix of one of my favorite country songs. You also made a pretty neat match of the two. I'll definitly be making an AMV to this at one point or another.

Now, the repeated scene with the engine thingy (green rocket thing blasting off) was really irritating and totally needless. There were also other repated scenes in the AMV that would be have been better off replaced with something else.

Video quality was fuzzy and needed some serious cleaning up to do.

The overall storytelling of the AMV and its concept was really unique and well executed.

Like I said, it's mixed feelings. I really did like it in the end of everything, but other things are really irritateing to look at.

But I will say one thing. It made me interested enough to check out this series. :O

Lip sync was really off at times attemtped.

Thank you very much for the critique. I really appreciate it. I'm not sure what I coud do about the video quality. It's a direct DVD rip from my own DVD's of the series. It looks about as good as the actual anime does on my TV. It's an older series, maybe that is the problem?

As for the flashing machine, that is Tiger's maiden circuit. Essentially, the piece of technology that gives her her emotions. IE, her 'heart'. So I tried to use that interpretation to essentially have her heart beating in time with the music at parts of the song. It is playing off a technique they use in the series itself where the various marionette's hearts pulse with their individual color when important things happen.

I know my lipsyncing sucks, I'm still working on that. :)
