I remember when originality used to be when someone made a Krillin or Roshi DBZ AMV.

When there are thousands of copies of something you still can consider the first one to be original because it was the first one that came up with the idea.

As far as I know, this was the first (and popular) amv (! ; not video in general) that came up with the piano keys effect:

Originality is how well you hide your sources of inspiration. Rolling Eyes
heheh that´s so much true. Most of the stuff that comes up is just a sum up of all the mixed influences. There are barely new ideas without influences (not only in amvs, but in general).
Finally someone has their history! <3 <3

Originality...doesn't really exist anymore. You can take ideas, improve upon them and take them to a level never seen before...AKA Skittles...

I like to see anime I've never seen before put with music I've never heard before. Usually that means using a non-english song if someone wants to get away from the shitty pop music that has invaded the US culture. I'd like to see more people getting together to create MEPs. I don't think I've seen a MEP that I haven't liked, you get so many different styles of editing in one video that it feels new and original. The Tool Project being one of my favorites followed by the AMV hell series. More cooperation in this community will lead to better and original AMVs. Less cooperation will lead to stagnation and to it's eventual destruction.

I have absolutely nothing against the adding on to the Linkin Park pile actually. If that's what floats your boat.

Lately I think I've been equating "originality" more with execution than the combo. I'd rather see an overused combo that's memorable than a new combo that's generic.

I've seen "new" before. Lots of it. Or at least it's new to me. There's a lot of anime out there I haven't seen and a lot of music I haven't heard. So every year I see something that is "new" from my perspective. But more times than not, I forget all about them in a few hours. In spite of it being a "new" song and a "new" anime, I've seen it before. Your generic Emo video with the character I don't know blends in with the generic Emo Shinji video I saw last week with the generic Emo Sasuke vid I saw a while back. I just forget all about it. It's all generic Emo no matter who it is.

AMV's may not be original but concepts, methods, execution, media and most of all...SCENE SELECTION can be used to convey an original concept.

I am a Culinary Major and I have my degree in Culinary Science. I view making an AMV like making a new dish/recipe. I make what I want, how I want it and present it. The feedback is needed on BOTH medians so that something you may ALREADY KNOW IS WRONG but was slipped passed you was pointed out again. Too sweet? Duh, slipped my mind. Too many splashes/sparkles/whateverthehellthatwas in there? Well, if I paid attention I could have caught it.

I am NOT a fan of this Top40 radio bull shit. Any AMV that has that kind of music is instantly boring to me unless done PERFECTLY and executed flawlessly.

When I think of original know what I want to see?

A Naruto video with non-popish/top 40 shit with SCENES I have never seen used in an AMV.

Difficult? Of course, considering that anime has been shot dead billions of times.

My current? I am flustered as to how I will complete the last minute of it.

There can not be originality. There can only be EVOLUTION of the original.

Sometimes Evolution is a better resolution than emulation of the "originals"
