300-Evangelion Trailer: NG3

Post by HurQlez03 » Sun Jun 01, 2008 6:39 pm

Whew! I really believe that we are the starving painters of this century (except our supplies are freakin' expensive!) because we all have a moment where we see an anime, or here a song or soundtrack and think, "I have to make an AMV with that, RIGHT NOW!". That has happened with me on this one.

I just got a new Mac Pro and Final Cut Pro 6 with Adobe Creative Suite Package, but I haven't made any new AMVs. Then one day I just looked at my Evangelion Platinum DVD and then saw the trailer to "300". Light bulb! I rushed to the computer and worked vigorously on it. I didn't realize that it was the first time I was making a trailer AMV and the first time I used the anime Evangelion in four years. I used a LOT of Adobe After Effects. It may be just lip sync and still images, but it's a good start. And what timing! I can also send it in to Otakon!

I certainly hope you guys enjoy this AMV-Trailer. And I certainly hope I get your opinions about it. So enjoy the 300-Evangelion trailer: NG3.

In case this thread isn't just a joke, there's something you should know before I watch this. EVERYONE who has ever done a trailer amv has done the 300 trailer. If they didn't it's because they already knew it was grotesquely overused. It's like the Linkin Park of trailers. It's easy to edit to, fits with just about anything, and 50% of all anime has been put to it at least 20 times. I made one a while back even though I knew that but I just needed to get it out of my system.

That being said, overused does not mean badly made and since I love to make and watch trailer amvs I think I'll give this 300 trailer #1,028 a go. I'll get back to you sometime later after I've watched it.

EDIT: Very nice. I liked it a lot. A few stray sound effects here and there and some odd scene choices but overall not bad. I really liked the way you edited the audio as well. I wasn't really expecting that. The lip sync was spot on but it couldn't have hurt to try and pick some more exciting ones. Overall I giving it a 4/5. 3.5/5 if you count the trailer choice but I'll just judge it by itself since the effort put into it was obvious. However, next time you get a little light bulb, look it up and see if anyone else had it first.

I like the original trailer so I download this video (as did with others before). What can I say it has some creative parts, like lightning, or Rei in smoke, there was some nice lypsync. The main complaints here:
1) Overused sources
2) What's happend with quality? EVA must have clear picture nowadays.
3) Scene selection was poor. For such powerful music it must be visually stunning. But something like that was only on last seconds of AMV.

First I thought... "man this just can´t work. Evangelion and 300? This must be nonsene!"

Alright so now I turned out good, but:

1. Effects. Ok some were a nice idea, but for me they often fail if you take a closer look on them. They were not bad, but need work in details.

2. Quality. Video... needs better clean ups.

3. Audio: Was has the audiostream really some lacks in quality (more at the end)? I think you took a bad trailer source. I mean it´s no big deal to get an awesome quality 300 trailer in the net or a dvd.

Overall the vid has it´s moments and was not bad. I especially liked the last quarter of the vid!

3.65/5

Nothing is more cool than getting a comment from an a-m-v.org member who's dishes out the negative first to make way for the positive.

If you've seen my past AMVs, you would see that those combos are HIGHLY overused. My way of making AMVs is that I don't care if I'm not the first one to do it, I just want to make it because I have a lot of love for the anime or the music.
Like with my AMV "Faithless".
