Maybe another entry to supplement "Where are the videos?" Something along the lines of:
Q: How do I find the video that's right for me?
A: The Super Search feature allows users to search our entire catalog based on anime, song, artist, etc. and combination there of.
I know there's already a link to super search in the opinion/reviews section, but that's not the first place I'd personally think to look for it. And neither question ("Where are the videos?" "There is a video I like, how do I leave a review?") give any idea of just how powerful a tool Super Search really is.
It also might be nice to have some sort of question referencing all the cool features the site has for finding the more highly rated videos. The Top 10%, the Top Star Scale, the Recommended AMVs forum, etc. I wouldn't even know where to begin in phrasing that question, I just thought I'd throw the idea out there.

Question: So out of the thousands of videos how can I find the good ones?
Answer: The <a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... t.php">Top 10% list</a> covers the video that have received the highest opinion scores. It can be sorted by age and genre.
The <a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... s.php">Top Star Scale</a> list which videos have gotten the highest star rating. It can be viewed as stars given that week or by all time ratings.
(This might be the place to include a link to the parts of the faq explaining ops and stars and what the difference is. Assuming part of the faq talks about that.)
The <a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/phpBB/v ... ecommended Vid forum</a> is where users can recommend videos based on genre or anime.
The <a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/phpBB/v ... 2">Classic vid list</a> is just what one opinionated asshole thinks and he doesn't want to see the list dead and forgotten.

I split the discussion of the site layout to a new thread.
These are all good suggestions; my aim is to sort out the organisation and sections shortly and then start filling in with questions. A draft will probably be posted for public consumption before it's put up as a final decision because beta testing is A Good Thing (tm).

I am planning on completely rewriting it as some of the old stuff is woefully inadequate (and I'm allowed to say that because I wrote it in the first place
). Please feel free to give more suggestions here.

Hehe, well the problem is that up until recently I was a copy editor and I still do copy writing as part of my job. Someone tells me they want my feedback and they inevitably get waaayyy more than they really wanted. I could probably go through the current FAQ and have a field day making suggestions for corrections, additions and deletions, but I don't think that's what you had in mind. ^_^Savia wrote:I am planning on completely rewriting it as some of the old stuff is woefully inadequate (and I'm allowed to say that because I wrote it in the first place). Actually, it's exactly what I had in mind. I am a perfectionist at heart and making the FAQ as good as it can be will only reduce my moderation workload in the long run.DriftRoot wrote:Hehe, well the problem is that up until recently I was a copy editor and I still do copy writing as part of my job. Under the Donation section, include a mention of the Donator-only forum and that it's the only area of the forum that allows "free" chat.
Add a link to Moonslayer's how to upload guide in the "how to list/upload videos" sections. You might also mention how to add pictures to a video entry, scripts and whatnot.
Under the "what videos aren't allowed", add a link to the "no evanescence/creed/etc" thread and specify the banned artists. Mention that you may only upload videos you've created yourself.
Add a section for journals; a reminder that the main site rules extend to include the journals (no porn, no downloadable anime links, no harrassment, etc), how the "journal buddies" works, private versus public entries, etc.
Definitely need a mini-faq or link for the "Alerts" section.
Add a section or just a line inviting people to come socialize on the forum (with a link directly to the forum rules) and a recommendation that they lurk for a while before posting. This could fit under the "contacting other members" section since that's the section about socializing. If there's a "how to navigate the forums" guide, this would be a good place to link it.
