I recommend you don't move to Australia with our low quota/download allowance limit :/

I would never watch a streaming video if I could download it directly to my hard drive. For one, I like having the copy right there so I don't have to go online and wait for it to load whenever I want to watch it.

This is also a big deal to me. Usually I don't care that much about video quality, but streaming is just beyond what I can enjoy. For example, a lot of what I like about Shinkai videos is that the art is so fantastic, so detailed and just plain gorgeous that it's easy to get lost in them with a high-quality encode. That immersion takes a huge hit with piss-poor streaming quality. With effects-heavy videos, too, I like to see all the little details. Quality does matter in a lot of cases, I don't care how elitist I sound.

Hasn't this been brought up a couple times in the Site Feedback forum? And shot down every single time?

I'm definitely with Bashar here.

There are still major bootstrapping issues.

Well, you can post a direct link to the youtube clip, im pretty sure.

Personally, I would love to see an addition to the video interface that allows you to embed an external flash video on your video info page. No extra upkeep for the site, and it puts it right there for "casual" viewers.

I want to add some more to what I just said.

I would probably watch many more amvs if they had a streaming option available. I hardly download any amvs these days. The thing is, I gotta sit there and wait a couple of minutes for it to download, then I have to watch it, then I have to browse to it on my hard drive and delete it, then I have to go back to the site main page and give it a star rating.
Because it turned out to be some piece of crap video that I didn't enjoy at all, and have no interest in ever watching again. Sure its not a huge hassle, but it DOES turn me off from downloading amvs, and I probably miss out on a few nice ones because of it.

you can post a link in the video description but I'm pretty sure the links section blocks streaming sites.

Yes there sure are parts of the planet where a North American would consider total hell.

Then again, if I lived in some places, I wouldn't be online all that much either.

I understand New Zealand is rough for service. Hell I'd be outside as much as possible. I'm indoors here in Central Ontario because outside is nothing to get excited about.
Anime, one of the few things about the internet that doesn't make me hate the internet.

Isn't there another thread with a discussion going on about the exact same thing?
