dvd bootlegs
Just recently I've wanted to make amv's (sailor moon ones in fact ^_^) So, i went and bought the dvds on ebay, but i didn't realize until i way after i had the dvd's that they were bootlegs. So i bought another ''different'' set, thinking they were the originals, but to my dismay they were bootlegs too
I finally am well informed of bootlegs from thanks to a bootleg spotting guide i read. But now I have a whole bunch of bootlegged dvd's and have spent well over $200 and am too broke to buy the OOP original seasons.. especially for how much they're selling for O_O. Can i make amv's from bootlegged dvd's, or is that illegal? and can i still make quality amv's even though my dvds are bootlegged? any help or suggestions would be great, thanks! (sorry if i posted this on the wrong board, i'm still a newbie O_o)

AMVs are illegal either way.
Just don't expect your footage to look spectacular.

from what i know of the sailor moon bootlegs (well most of them) they look like they have been ran through wmm twice....
I really don't know what to tell you to do with them, but yea being informed is a good thing so it doesn't happen again.

hmm i think some of them were shipped my fedex and the rest i'm not sure, by a company i've never heard of. I don't know, it's not that i'm not a fan, I want to buy the official dvds but i seriously could not afford to pay more than $100 per season, meh, I just feel really cheated. I can't take the bootlegs back, and i guess i'm at fault because i bought them
even if there was a site where i could find the originals at a more reasonable price, not ebay, haha.

there are some legit ones but most of the time if you find someone selling the sailor moon dvd sets under 100 bucks, chances are they are bootlegs.anime-otaku wrote: I want to buy the official dvds but i seriously could not afford to pay more than $100 per season,
Its become a collector's item since its out of print.
There are some legit people selling them on ebay and amazon but you will usually have to pay $180+

There is NO free lunch.
eBay is NOT a way to get something cheap where anime is concerned. Say what you want, tell me you've bought hundreds of things on eBay successfully, couldn't care less.
I wouldn't buy anime off eBay unless I was INTENDING to buy bootleg (not saying I want to, just saying I'd expect it to be bootleg if I did).
The series is a bit long in the tooth now, it's not something you should expect to be finding easily. And it shouldn't be cheap.
Now as for making amvs with them, well come on, everyone knows amvs use someone else's property (both the video and the song), so how could anyone give you grief over what you used?
Unless your amv simply just sucks, I don't think your source is relevant.

Anime, one of the few things about the internet that doesn't make me hate the internet.

but most sailor moon bootlegs the quality is lower than the R1s...CrackTheSky wrote:Just because it's bootlegged does not mean the quality is bad.
if you really wanna make awesome looking amvs with sailor moon R2s are the only way to go... but they are gonna be more expensive than even the R1s

by no means at all, am I expecting to get anything ''free'' I'm willing to pay a little more, because of course i want something that's legit, and at the time when i bought the dvds i didn't know exactly what was bootlegged and what wasn't. I've actually seen items on ebay that are legit. Most of them aren't but there are a few. I know i have to pay more for the real thing, but i'm not going to go past my limits... ex. on amazon there is 2 people selling sailor moon S the legit boxset. One is selling for 599.00 and the other 699.00. I'm sorry but to me that is f*cking ridiculous, of course only by my standards, but they even say in the description that they're used and damaged. Like If me not buying a $700.00 damaged boxset makes me a bad person, or not a fan than o well
