My First Post on here.

Post by RobbieMiller89 » Tue Apr 15, 2008 10:31 am

My first Post here ever, Its an AMV for Deathnote that I made last month. It turned out well, has low resolution (which I cant change, sorry about that). All my AMVs were orginally made for youtube I'll admit so none of them have good resolution. This is the only one I'll upload for now, and its supposably my best so far according to my friends.

Please give me opinions, what I could do better, what you thought, anything that could help me get better. I'm using Sony Vegas 4.0 right now, I'm trying to win Vegas 8 in a AMV contest with this video, but if that doesnt happen is there any recomendations for a better program?

Thanks I'm just looking to better my work. I have more AMVs I'll probly upload in the future (2 Naruto, 1 Ah! My Goddess, and 1 YuYuhakusho.. and I'll still be making more.)

To tell you the truth "Your friends lied to you"!!

The quality sucks as you mentioned before. My question is, why do you release something so bad looking when you know that it looks like shit? I am not sure what the quality standard is at youtube, but this is certainly to low for the org. If the org gives you the oppurtunity to upload a better quality, why not make it your advantage? You are doing amv's quiet a while now? Why do you still have subtitles in them? Why don't you even try to make the scenes fit to the AMV? I haven't seen anything which could be related to the meaning of the song nor did I see anything which would make up decent storyline. You chose random scenes and put it randomly on the line and didn't even bother to make it fit to the music. That's what I was getting from watching your AMV...

Don't bother to upload your recent stuff, which was done for youtube. Try to read the guides and make something, which could be enjoyable... even a little...

There is no standard for the org. there are bad, good and great vids hear as there are on the Tube. I can not stress how bad vids were 6 to 7 years ago(with several exceptions) on the org and how they have gradually been better and better each year. Ya so the quality is not that good, that does not mean they dont get better.

Made in Vegas but is released as a wmv? :?

Editted with comments:

Major Peeves:
It's so small!
The borders
Lack of sync. Honestly, I could find it only on rare occasions, but for the most part everything was so slow when the song was fast, or vice versa, no action sync period, and your transitions and cuts were in the middle of nowhere.
How did the subtitles work in your favor? I tried to fit them into the song and story, but they just wouldn't.

I did catch, at least bits and pieces, of the story, but it was very faint because you tended to jump everywhere.

2/5 at best.

Yeah Thanks.

I'll be sure to give it another try soon enough, going back and watching the original version of my AMVs they are all really small, which isnt the way they were when I created them. I guess its because I re-rendered them all for Youtube, which really sucks..

I guess I'll just delete all my AmVs and start over again.

Oh NO! Don't do that. There is no reason to "start over again", you just gotta improve on what your doing.

I still have my very first Videos, I burned them on DVD and watch them from time to time and get happy to see how much I improved. It's worth keeping those videos, no matter how much they suck.

because it "converts" the nicest for the tube site... and at the default settings Vegas WMV is actually fairly good quality, still lower than XVID or X.264 but still good, however it's the resolution that kills this.

Comments on the video:
This is one of my favorite songs and I've done a video to it myself, so I guess I have some kind of expectations... Also from a "fangirl" point of view this song would make an excellent L video... or a video from the perspective of L of him attempting to catch Light.

As mentioned before subtitles = bad... If you can't afford the DVDs at least find a RAW or crop off the subs or something. But seriously DVD is the way to go for source footage because it will be a lot easier to work with than any raws/fansubs you will find online. (And no, I won't tell you where to find raws)

There seemed to be a huge lack of flow - movement wise through out the video... As I said I've edited to this song before so perhaps I have a different standard..
a lot of the scenes dragged... they went on and on and on and on, for a song like this faster cuts and internal sync are rather important, they help set the tone and the mood of the video. Without those syncs the audience is left bored. This song should make someone want to sit at the edge of their seat wondering wtf is gonna happen next.

As for Lyrical Sync there was little to none, cept a few phrases here and there and those were kinda random.

There wasn't much in the way of mood sync either.

I think the biggest downfall was the huge lack of concept. I hate to "turn" this specific phrase but I would have liked to see more L/Light Cat/Mouse. The mood of this song is perfect to portray it.

However you used random death scenes, and the only lyric sync I saw in the whole thing was "something beautiful" (that is if you think dumb blond hot topic whores are "beautiful") the rest of the video appeared to be random death scenes... now you could have gone the way of a "dark comedy" and you know did every death scene in the entire show, and kinda made a montage of death scenes, but i think a different song woulda been better for something like that.

Anyways Don't fret about "deleting all your old videos and starting from scratch".. (for once I agree with Kevmaster on something) I like holding on to my old crap as well and looking back and seeing how much I've improved.

Take the things said in this thread as a learning experience, and if people didn't "care" they wouldn't post and tell you where things went wrong.

I dug the first ten seconds. Click, book, click, mmm. And the atmosphere, when I could see what was going on.

Nowhere near as bad as that evil harlot nunchuck lead me to believe. Damn you nunchuck!
