Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

Jump in the river and learn to swim...

Post by Taiyo-no-Ko » Wed Apr 09, 2008 2:52 pm

Hi Everyone,

Well, here it is: my first post on this forum and my first video. Like it reads in my comment, I hadn't made an AMV since the days of hooking up VCRs, so it was a bit of a struggle to get to grips with the new technology.
I chose to do a "remake" of one of my old VHS attempts, because: 1. I wanted to keep the structure simple for a first attempt; 2. I wanted to get a feel of the amount of possible finetuning. Also, since Wings Of Honneamise is just one movie, it keeps the amount of footage to go through to a more manageable level for a beginner like me.
There you have it. I hope you enjoy it, and all comments and hints are welcome. The filesize is a bit heavy, but then Honneamise is a visully rich movie, so there's a lot of data to compress. Thanks.

ah, this was a delight. You're an editor of the uncommon kind, and I loved watching this. you have a nice feel to this amv and the music + footage was pretty original. Not my favorite kind of AMV, but there are exceptions.

And you need to look around on .org for guides and help. There is so much here for you to extract of information regarding your editing. you should you should download this http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/ ... p3beta.exe

check out this H.264 compression guide for a smaller compression and with better quality http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/ ... 64gui.html , but before that.
There are also a lot of other guides that you should check out with time.

Again, a delight and a fresh breath of air

I have to agree with the above poster. It's a nice change of pace from what I've been seeing a lot of lately. Often, I don't really get into videos like this one, but this seems to be an exception. I think the song may have done it for me. I've never heard it before, but I quite like it.

As for technical aspects, beat synch was spot on most all the time, it had some nice lyric synch, and I really like some of the other internal synch in the video, such as the timing of the shadows around 16 seconds and the heavy breathing on that bike-like thing at 1:14. Very well placed. The video quality was a little low, but it wasn't low enough to distract me or otherwise degrade my viewing experience, IMO.

Very well done; I quite thoroughly enjoyed it. 4.25/5 + I'm keeping it on my hard drive. d(^_^d)
... yea ...

Thanks for the comments, guys. I have to admit that compressing is the main thing I'm struggling with at the moment. I did this one using TMPGenc with a couple of filters in the Avisynth script (temporalcleaner and mftoon), but there still a fair amount of macroblocking. I'll have to experiment a bit further...
