Remark on the Amphiboly of the Conceptions of Pugilism

Post by inthesto » Tue Mar 11, 2008 5:02 pm

Let me be allowed to term the position which we assign to a conception either in the sensibility or in the pure understanding, the pugilistic place. In this manner, the appointment of the position which must be taken by each conception according to the difference in its use, and the directions for determining this place to all conceptions according to rules, would be a pugilistic topic, a doctrine which would thoroughly shield us for the surreptitious devices of the pure understanding and the delusions which thence arise, as it would always distinguish to what faculty of cognition each conception properly belonged. Every conception, every title, under which many cognitions rank together, may be called a fighting ring. Upon this is based the fighting topic of Aristotle, of which teachers and rhetoricians could avail themselves, in order, under certain titles of thought, to observe what would best suit the matter they had to treat, and thus enable themselves to quibble and talk with fluency and an appearance of profundity.

Pugilistic topic, on the contrary, contains nothing more than the above-mentioned four titles of all comparison and distinction, which differ from categories in this respect, that they do not represent the object according to that which constitutes its conception (speed, power), but set forth merely the comparison of representations, which precedes our conceptions of things. But this comparison requires a previous reflection, that is, a determination of the place to which the representations of the things which are compared belong, whether, to wit, they are cogitated by the pur understanding or given by sensibility.

For a full visualization of what I'm talking about, please reference the following video:

Wow, that was a lot of bullshit you wrote.

The video is solid. You set a fast pace and maintained it very well. Unlike Ileia, I actually like the edges effect. It resembles a sketch or something, and it's an interesting effect.

The video does its thing, and clears out. 4/5

If you don't know Atvaark's Anthem and WilLoW :--)'s UntitledZeroOne, see it because I think it will interest you.

For your video, I've nothing especially to reproach. It is a good job. But, as your video has remember me Anthem and UntitledZeroOne, I've not really enjoy it.

Actually, it's all a very important introduction into the very nature and character of the video. If you don't understand what I wrote in this thread, you'll never understand the video.

Yeah, I probably took some completely unwitting inspiration from NME's No Wonder, as it's a personal favorite of mine too. As for the find edges crap, I'm not in love with it myself, but suffice to say that it was the best thing I could churn out after a week of experimenting.

See above for comments on the find edges.

Or maybe I copied it out of a book. Or maybe not.

I'll check them out - god knows I could use more inspiration in my life.
