hm... sure, I can recomend you one or two (it's quicker if you look at the vca winners... coarse I rarely agree with them) and look at me I'm doing the exact same thing that I say I hate, so if you choose to ignore me *.* I mean, you asked for a rec or two but if you don't want to follow my advice, that's always cool with me (you know, long as we come to an understanding).SecondChild wrote:Do you have any videos that you would suggest I watch in order to get a sense of what qualifies for a "good" video these days? I'm sincerely interested.
first off I'll start with drama
it's nothing special, just know that the better videos of the passed are simply average now. go and download a random video out there or in the op exchange thread (where I'd suspect you'd get more of the answers your looking for ie 1 to 1 ops and such) and you may be surprised what you find. It may be that children today spend ALOT more time on these than you are used to, or the guides cover ALOT more ground than you gathered from when you started (I know it did for me...), but I think it's more that the editing programs of today make it SO much easier that they practically make the amv for you ~.~ anyway that's just my rant, check out the video ;p and here's an action one for you to sample.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm wondering - the only lip-synching I attempted was over the lyrics "If it's never, than it's never". I didn't really do all too much.Faulturez wrote:I'll check this out

edit : the only problem was lip sync was off ,good to pick that song though but need to work on your sync man
overall 2.5/5 nice one
I'm starting to think that since so many of the clips I'm using have characters talking in them, it's being interpreted as an attempt at lip-synch. I'm very precise in the small amount of synch I attempt. I guess it's just that Asuka is almost always talking. =0
Hmm... I think that's a big problem with Eva in general, since it's so dialogue heavy (well, aside from the mecha fighting stuff).
Unless I've completely mis-interpreted and you are talking just about those two quick synchs that I intended to portray.

heh I did'nt come out too constructive about the lip synching that you attempted to the lyrics in some parts I'll watch out next time.

I appreciate the feedback. I guess I should watch out and try not to use too many clips with people talking unless I'm going to sync it, or maybe I should ditch the little bit of lip synching I did do, because that sets up an expectation of lip-synch?Faulturez wrote: heh I did'nt come out too constructive about the lip synching that you attempted to the lyrics in some parts I'll watch out next time.

You can take everything I'm about to say with a grain of salt if you wish, since I did basically this exact same video a few months ago, but I was really disappointed. There were way, WAY too many scenes that had mouth flap in them, and the times you actually tried lip sync looked really bad (video would have been fine without any lip sync at all).
Also, the simple effects you used didn't really integrate too well with the video. It would have been fine as a straight cut-and-fade type video, the weird split-screen thing you kept doing was distracting and never really looked like it was being used properly. I also tend to hate half-transparent overlays in almost any form, and this video overdid that too, IMO.
From a technical standpoint, the quality was actually quite good...however, the unfixed interlacing really did a number on the video and ended up being almost as distracting as the other things I've mentioned. If you'd removed that, the quality would have been really good.
Despite all this there was one thing I really, really liked about the video: You were able to do an Eva video without showing the Evas, and the absence of the Evas really helped the story (which I still felt was scattered and unsatisfying). The scene selection in general was very poor though, this video didn't demonstrate a very good understanding of visual rhythm and a lot of the scenes just didn't feel like they were put in the right place.
Overall, this was a video with potential, but ultimately it got buried under a slew of things that probably wouldn't have taken that much time to fix up. Things like scene selection obviously would have taken a bit more thought, but there's definitely a good video in here, you just needed to figure out how to really bring it out.
