neorose, could you elaborate a bit? "Editing" includes pretty much everything after initial concept creation and selection of footage. Bad timing (music to video sync)? Too little special effects, custom made filters and lens glare?
If it's the latter, then it must be because I'm fairly new to creating AMVs, and I'm kind of reluctant to start programming and doing my editing in notepad instead of Premiere. I did intend to make more effects into it... to blur the line between the two separate anime series a bit more but it appeared way too time-consuming. I edited this video for around a month... surely not all of that went to editing as I've got work 5 days a week and the only computer that doesn't crash constantly while I'm editing is accessible to me only two days a week.
If my video/music sync was off, then it may be because the first song has several beats to match to. I didn't match to the baseline because my editing system had trouble playing back lower frequencies, higher and middle frequencies (that is a very jagged frequency response curve through whole freq range)... it was a very crappy stereo amp that had already burned it's main amp once and being repaired half-heartedly with a lower quality transistor. Thus I edited it using low-quality stereo headphones that weren't any better for low frequencies. If I only had used my Sennheisers doing it, it may have been easier and possibly yielded totally different end result. I would have probably beat matched it to baseline instead of some higher freq instrument. Whether it would have been better or worse would depend on the audio playback system of the viewer/listener. If it's a low-freq crippled system such as laptop speakers, then editing to baseline would have made a worse result.
Everything that happens in the video between 00:54 and 01:27 pretty much FAILs in terms of synching and scene selections. I ran out of footage. I could have added more episodes for footage but that would have delayed it further and I had not a faintest idea what I wanted there... other than that I wanted Akuma no Zetto to drive up the mountain pass (but obviously there was no more footage of Zetto driving on the countryside as the series is mosly located on Wangan highway).

Darn how getting any opinions is hard... especially as I have my videos hosted externally (because I can't connect to kero for some reason) and thus will not even receive star ratings. Well they're not that informative about what exactly was good/bad but at least there's the quick comment option... which I won't be receiving either.

This is genius work , the pace had good fitting, the scenes seemed slow with that song , however at 04:56 to 05:04 had lost sync , it had good originally, definally to use Initial D Fourth Stage Move - Dogfight music video to involve in this I'll say you did an awesome job looking forward to see more from you.

I didn't like it and that has following reasons:
The animations of this anime isn't breathtaking and if I wanted to see a bunch of cars driving around somewhere then I would play PS3 or drive in reality. I really didn't like the first 2 minutes where I could bearly find out who the main character is just because you had the main focus on those ugly cars. I also would better up the sync. Showing about 2 pictures on a very fast part which goes about 15-20 seconds (around minute 1) isn't enough
I would better up that next time. Now everything which followed didn't touch me too much. That is subjective, but I don't like real people in amv. They don't support the story line nor do they fit in to the picture of an animated background. I hope that helps a bit. You have definitely some talent in editing. Hopefully there will be more and if you have trouble with your footage just do an other anime which gives you more scenes

I wasn't really blown away with this either. you used a pretty fast paced and awesome to the core song that requires lots of motion and action. The amv was a long race scene with not that impressive action. Felt like the music and the footage wasn't really that well matched. DOGFIGHT is good race material, but you should've done more with it. I liked what you did with the rl band footage and integrated it with the amv, but it wasn't integrated as good as I hoped it would be. And while we're at it, you should also fix that bad quality on the amv.

I was gonna leave a quick comment, [occasionally, I like to leave anonymous in-depth qc's like this...] but your vid isn't hosted on Local, which stops me from doing so. Working out the quirks with an ftp client is well worth the qc's. Yeah... I'm opposed to that rule

I could tell that there was a fair amount of effort put into your vid, mainly because the editing in general was executed well-- whenever it occurred. Like neorose, that's my first main gripe: needed more editing... and I don't mean effects etc. I mean "I wanted to see more stuff." Make more cuts. Let me see how cool the anime is. Adjust the focus of your scene selection more often. Try to show the details, no matter how insignificant they seem, because if you incorporate them, it adds depth to your amv, and I appreciate that sort of thing. Because lets face it; you are watching two cars driving. There's not much else you can do.
This is just a guess, but I suspect the thing stopping you from making more edits is the time it takes to edit. Something that may help, is if you edit with fast MJPEG.avi's. There are several out there... the one I'm using right now is the Midvid JPEG codec. With that, editing will be instant. Making a cut won't take five minutes. But once again, this is just a guess. One that I'm basing on the observation that your edits are good... but it seemed like there is something preventing you from doing more.
My second gripe is the length. Being paired along with the above rarely works well.
The main redeeming quality is that you keep a constant trickle of a storyline, which was just enough to keep me interested for the near 6 min video. When I think about it, this approach can work quite well, but there need to be better attention-grabbers during down-time. Personally, I am in favor of musical sync during these periods. You hit most of the main beats, but there were a lot of sounds left untouched.
For example, from 3:15-3:45 virtually nothing happens in terms of storyline [and this is what I mean by 'down-time.'] Personally, I think during down-time, the only thing keeping the viewer interested is what the editor does. It's also an opportunity to reinforce the connection between the video and the audio... which if you don't do... people won't feel like they are watching a music-video, but rather a video sequence that has music in the back. [although you did reinforce the connection to the music with the singers... but maybe I'm just not a fan of a moving mouth... part of the reason why I find traditional music videos quite dull] During that segment, I would have loved to see something done with those chirps and blips in the music, because really, nothing is happening, so you just need to grab the viewers attention until 3:45 hits... where the storyline will be more than enough to maintain interest.
Overall, I would say 'a bit above average' at a 3.5/5 considering you kept my interest for the full duration. And my take-home message is that I liked the constant trickle of storyline, and you should continue with that
but you need to find better ways of keeping viewer interest during down-time.

It's not just FTP but I can't even ping kero. Half of people I've asked to ping it from Finland didn't manage to do it. Elisa ISP appears to commonly have problems connecting to kero via any means of communication... except HTTP but that's useless as it's not a HTTP server but FTP. And FTP gets filtered, as does ICMP protocol (ping = ICMP echo request). I've tried active and passive mode and several different client programs. I can connect to other FTP servers but not kero.
I have only one video served locally and that one I uploaded to a non-Finnish friend who I gave the temporary FTP login information for uploading the file. That was too much trouble so I got an FTP server outside .org and now I can upload directly to it.

I have and I've come to a conclusion that VidID sucks with videos that have 2+ source footage and 2+ songs. The result is just various (2), various (2), various (2), various (2), .... nothing that really tells me anything I want to know.
I know that it'd be impossible to list all video and audio footage with multi-editor projects since they may consist of 100+ shorter videos, all with different sources. I'm just using two anime series here. 2 titles can't be too much to list, yet VidID wouldn't list them because 2 is already "too many".
My opinion, useless feature for all but single anime, single song videos. VidID is for lazy people. Seeing "various (2)" printed on my screen makes me see red. Sorry.

I agree that downtime is a big problem with my video. And I consider worst cases of downtime to be
00:53 - 01:28, 04:51 - 05:20.
I used the live-action one time too often, IMO. I should have ended that in the SCREEEEAAM, but I kinda ran out of footage. I'll admit one thing now: I only used 2 episodes of Initial D and 2 episodes of Wangan. :p
I'm going to be taking a bit of break with this one because it's been delaying my other projects(*) for too long already. If I continue editing this, I intend to make the changes major, add a lot more episodes to use for footage, more camera angles, and more paintshopping. I will at least try to obfuscate the line between these series in order to make it more of crossover type of thingy. In current version, there was some suggestive scene changes and two scenes involving paintshopping to create this overlap. They might go by unnoticed as they are now.
I will address these problems and release it as a new video.
EDIT: or maybe it was 3 episodes of each or at least other one. Still, the sequences aren't quite as sequential as they appear to be. While I used scenes that appear to be sequential, they really aren't that always. I wanted to preserve the story but cut the scenes with incar view. I actually intentionally did the opposite of what you wanted: I eliminated the drivers from the video. Usually clipped the incar sequence and fit the before and after next to each other, clipping them into proper length, zooming and adjusting brightness to make them appear as if they were one scene in the original footage. This occurs numerous times... sometimes I mixed scenes from different episodes the same way but this didn't yield that good results as there's different amounts of cell-shading and other post-processing on the 3D animation that couldn't be eliminated just by adjusting the basic image properties. One example of this being at 03:33. I don't think that even adding strong edge enchancement filters on the first scene could solve the issue on the transition. Also the headlight beams appear out of nowhere...
That scene, btw, was made of four different clips. And I mixed them together... and by doing it, made it even appear slower paced. I've actually gone through extra trouble to ruin it in several scenes. And I did that elsewhere as well. :p
I'm seriously considering whether I should always take my Sennheiser headphones with me when I go to do editing. It's extra luggage but at least it'd be better if I heard the audio track.

(*) I'm planning to return to the roots of my video editing hobby: causing lots of annoyance among people watching them. This means, I intend to rework Full Metal Highschool Massacre and I've started creating scenes for an overlength SEP.
I know... my overlenghts SEPs have failed, more or less. If all them haven't outright failed, being overlenght and having multiple tracks have at least lowered the enjoyment for many of the watchers. And now I intend to overdo even that... with at least a dozen songs... but this time from a single artist: Wombstretcha the Magnificent. If anyone want's to join me and make it a MEP, I'll welcome him/her/it.
Contact me if you want to create some highly offensive content.
I won't create any official MEP thread yet and possibly never. This is because:
a) I intend to edit several parts for the compilation. If others want to edit just one, I would delay publication of their parts, thus I'd become a nuisance,
b) I have no experience in administering MEPs. I'd like to keep it small and simple, only a few participants. Quality over quantity. And I don't mean editing skills but some assraping attitude. Unless you're a FUBAR /b/tard or AMV Hell fan, GTFO, LOL.
