Where has the community gone?

I'm just going to do a quick comment here before I head to work. In my experience here, change only comes by when there's a "squeaky wheel" and, you know, the squeaky wheel always gets the grease. It also seems that the grease seems to tighten the seize more than anything else to a point where things just don't turn anymore and you just don't find it useful.
Stupid analogy but fair I think.

Tab, honestly there were many retarded things in 2003 and you know this. The problem is really that you were 'in' back in 2003 and you were among the group that could bend the rules cause everyone'd be all 'lololol tab' and nothing would happen if you did violate chatroom rules.
Well, I honestly got into the community more after 2003. Sure, I miss the old OT. But the new group is just as awesome. Just that it's better not to try and wage war on them and make life difficult for the current mods and such. Also, as much as I don't want to turn this thread in that direction (and I know that this is probably what this is about to start with), but your quote there isn't the whole story with aes booting you
Unfortunately I don't think many people are gonna give you respect and cred, even if you deserve it for stuff you did way back, cause a lot of people either don't know who you are or you haven't been around long enough for them to care. Instead of trying to assert yourself and raising shit, at least try to see why those of us who are around like the place. Honestly, the .org changed a huge lot since I joined, but I'm nowhere near leaving. Cause believe it or not, there is actually a pretty good community here.

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

You're right, Oto, and I appreciate the reply. My problem is that I want to like the community again, and I'm having a hard time because the cliques have changed. Some of the faces are the same (most have left), but they've mostly succumb to this weird new "we don't give a shit who you are if you offend one of our own" moderation gang. Which is all that happened. Requiett and I are banned because aes didn't like us. There's no real justification, and if there is, I've yet to hear it. None of what went on even followed the "due process" laid out in the chat rules or necessarily violated the chat rules. Moreover, squabbling over shit like that shouldn't even be a question. Politics should never interfere with the community. And if anyone thinks I haven't been a serious contributor to the community since 2002, all they need to do is look at my posting history. Maybe aes should have done her homework before letting that PMDD fly off the handle.
I want to be able to re-join the community. That's why I paid to access DF. That's why I still post in Video. That's why I'm still butthurt about the IRC ban. But I can't, because, as Kalium so gleefully informed me, the community mostly exists in #amv, and I'm fucked out of that for stupid reasons. And there's no real metamoderation to go to to call foul, just a bunch of individual moderators sitting around going "oh well I don't want to get involved in that."
Thanks, guys. Thanks for forgetting everything about what this place once was.

Well, sorry to hear that. I think you should of at least got a warning. It could be personal. Favoritism? Power tripping/abusing(sorry, I get that one from the Navy)? A misunderstanding? Maybe they have a new system where you can't break any rule and no warnings are given?
Sorry about how you're being treated and not even getting any explanation of why you are being treated badly.

I remember the good old days...song game anyone? I think I remember that time a little more fondly because I was actually editing consistently. Now, I dont even consider myself an AMV maker anymore, especially since I haven't watched an anime series in years. That said, most of the people I considered friends back then are still around and are the same great people (at least to me). I also have enjoyed talking to the newer people in the community when I make the occassional visit to IRC, I think it's just a matter of adapting (like others said) and trying to get to know the next generation.

Oh man, WTH happened to Nailz? He was good people...BTW, I propose bans from IRC chat be limited to 1 year (except for spam bots), kind of like parole. At the end of the year, I think the ban should be lifted and the user be given a chance to rejoin the chat pending they don't do anything to get banned again (I know that can be subjective). Permanent bans just seem too extreme and cause so many of the older crowd to be felt left out, especially if they matured over the year and don't plan on repeating the offense that got them banned the last time.Tab. wrote:Stop using your psychic internet powers.
