Well, after all this ... I think adding yet another competitive aspect to this site is very bad idea. We already have Stars, OPS, VCAS, All-time and weekly lists of "Who's da best" .... do we really need to add to the drama? How about this .... do a RDS Picks and post them there? RDS's best of '07?

The stars, ops, all time, and weekly lists aren't meant to be contests. The fact that some view them that way says a lot more about them than it does about the sites competitiveness.

SHADDUP! I AM TEH BEST AND YOU'RE JUST JEALOUS!

On a serious note, I do agree though. It's amazing what a few years and experience will do. I just don't seem to care as much about such things like I used to when I joined the site. Maturity FTW?

Sadly I believe I'm in the minority. Oh well, whatever floats your boat.

If you get this off the ground, I'd love to be a judge. I think it would be great to have the sort of "judges choice" section of the VCAs. Mix it up a bit.

Let's try a different tack here:

Where's the need? Why is this necessary? What concrete problem does this address, what wrong does it right, what issue does this solve?

All I see is a vague mention of people complaining of popularity (as measured by the awards) versus 'deservingness' (conveniently undefined and unmeasured).

Plus, could someone please define the meaning of 'balance' in the context of an AMV contest? It's not like we have some objective standard for judging videos.

I think it would be cool to have a panel of judges that most everyone here thinks are qualified. These people would either:

A: Won various awards
B: Been around long enough to have seen trends rise and fall
C: Be generally recognized on the forums as "knowing wtf you're talking about"

Preferably all 3. The problem this solves is that the VCAs are their own punchline nowadays, and people seem to want some more qualified judgment in their AMV lives. This will give it to them. A group of generally recognized OGz will watch your video and see if they can open up the books for you.

Thats all

What is the need, necessity, or problem solved by the VCAs, AWA, Acen, or any other existing contest? You're acting like the only thing to stop pro-JCA people from taking VCA winners behind the barn and shooting them in the head is you. This is just a contest idea guys. Don't like it? Don't participate it in, same as any other contest. Jesus, do you guys go to a first year con and bitch that they have a masquerade and amv contest despite the fact other cons had those long before? Take that stick out of your ass, it's been up there so long it's starting to decompose inside you. Sometimes 'because it'd be amusing for awhile' is a good enough reason to do something.
