This topic has gotten me in trouble before, but I'll go ahead and throw in my two cents.

In something such as an AMV, it's not so much about what's the most important aspect, but instead it's about balancing every aspect out. A lot of great AMVs made don't necessarily focus on one aspect, and the audience knows this too. If you ask me they're all important because they're all working for one idea. And because this thread is asking for 'most important,' I'll go ahead and say the idea itself is the most important.
Keep in mind, idea does not mean originality. Originality is (BUT NOT LIMITED TO) how that idea's been used.
Simply put, the "idea" is the foundation of the AMV. All aspects are important because they surround that idea.

It's better if its original,but if it isent,it dosent really bother me.

- Visual Quality

If the visual quality isent at least decent,I will most likely not be able to sit threw the whole thing and watch it unless the editing is spectacular.Which most likely the editing won't be what I would classify spectacular,but maybe decent.But yeah,I really can't enjoy an AMV if the visual quality isent at least decent O:

- Sound/Audio Quality

Same as visual basically,if the sound quality is very bad,i won't be able to enjoy it at all,I'm actually not to good at pointing out how good sound quality is,but if its bad enough to the point that I can actually notice flaws in it,it most likely will appear annoying to me.

- Sync (internal, lyrical, beat etc)

This is one of the most important ones,I think its basically self-explanatory.

- Lipsync

All I can really say here is,if your going to add lipsync in a video,and take the chance of it being critisized,make sure its really good lipsync.Because if the lipsync is bad,I won't be able to enjoy like..the next 15 seconds after the ugly lipsync occur,it will throw off my attention.

-Effects

I'm a sucker for a lot of effects,if their is a lot of effects I will most likely enjoy it,unless their useless effects.But no effects at all is also nice sometimes,depends what kind of mood I'm in.

- Pace

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by this.

- Re-viewability

eh,If i can't review an AMV I really liked again,thats okay,as long as I get the pleasure of viewing it the first time

Overall..I'm not really sure what I'd classify as the most important one out of all them different characteristics,But they're all pritty important,and thats really all I have to say =]

you can have one without anime (original animation)

you can have one without video (COKIS2, failing that this one thing trythil did.)

but i have yet to see one without music.

so I still stand by my "music is the most important".

That depends entirely on your definition of music. We've had a few videos that are simply set to noise (Conet?) or dialog (like in music-less trailers).

- Re-viewability .. no one can judge things on first impressions nor by its opening -- unless their a pure mental-case!

- Pace .. you never notice the pace of anything until somethings "just not working right" and, at that point, everybody gets a head-ache!

I don't see how it can be hard on the eyes. It's pretty much just like watching at other stuff, I don't really see the difference for the eyes.

Just taking these as examples, but did you find Skittles hard on your eyes?

The AMV was practically bursting with effects, but I think he managed to fit them all in very well.

Also Magic Pad, he blended each effect in flawlessly I'd say. I have to say the anime actually looked better with his effects than it originally did.

Again, with Efflorescent Dawn, one of the most beautiful use of effects I've seen (out of the tiny lsit of AMVs I've watched anyway)

I'd agree with Kev when he says that you can use as much as you like, but only if it actually contributes positively to the AMV.
