The most important aspect to an AMV?

Post by Pas » Sat Dec 22, 2007 12:11 am

I'm not sure if this has already been posted (I did a search and found nothing) but I was wondering that, for all you editors, what do you think is the most important element in an AMV, using 7 of the options listed when you give an OP (excluding effort and overall) and adding Pace.

In other words, out of:
  • - Originality
    - Visual Quality
    - Sound/Audio Quality
    - Sync (internal, lyrical, beat etc)
    - Lipsync
    - Effects
    - Pace
    - Re-viewability
Which do you find most/least important in regards to how much you enjoy the AMV, and how you rate it?

Just rate it from 1 - 8 (1 being the most important to you, 8 being the least)

Although this is all based on personal preference, I'd still ike to know what you think of it.

*apologies if this has already been done.

Been discussed many times, under various guises.

I think, however, that your list lacks the most important criteria:
whether the AMV is emotionally involving.

It depends on what type of video you are trying to make. If you just want to make a plain action video, I don't think you should worry too much about originality.

If you are trying to make an angelic video then I would say visual quality is very important. That's what ruins it for me if the video feels pretty with scenes used and coloration but the visual quality is not that great it really ruins the over all feeling for me.

People make videos based on their own deep feelings and joy of something/anger,etc.. and when it comes to that I don't think you should make things a particular way based on what is asked of you but to make something that suits what you find is right.

Composition. I don't think any of the listed things matter on their own if the editor can't put together something in an interesting way.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Entertainment. You can fuck up all the other categories but as long as you entertain me it's fine. That being said, being entertaining is a lot harder to do without at least some originality.

From what I see on every thread the Aspect ratio seems to be the most important thing. Its the first thing people look for and the first thing they usually comment on if its wrong other then visual and audio quality. Then they go for personal opinion stuff.
"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

I don't see much bitching on that and when they do, it probably isnt that big a deal to them but just mentioning it to help the creator
