What makes an action or sports video memorable?

OK, so everyone seems kind of confused. I'll give a personal example of what I mean with this thread:
Beowulf's Hail to the Thief video is one of my favorite videos and I think it has excellent replay value. One of the most striking parts is at 2:11 when the video switches from black and white to color. The lyrics leading up to this moment say, "There is no way out, you can scream and you can shout, it is too late now..." Asuka is shown to be in inner turmoil, struggling. She is also shown upside down. Then an Eva descends from above and lands on the ground and the video switches to color and from character shots to a skillfully edited action sequence. Unleashing aggression has become Asuka's only way to return to normalcy and as a viewer we identify with her and we welcome the change visually. Graphically we are somewhat disoriented through crosscutting of action sequences, but you'll notice that the color red is central throughout the chorus (blood, Asuka's jump suit, explosions, Misato's shirt) and so our eye is guided throughout the frame by the color. I would say that the action is well-motivated and set-up in this video and that's one of the reasons it sets itself apart from many other action videos.
(I'm not asking for this kind of detail, it's just an example of what I mean by pointing out specific elements. It could also be some trend that lasts throughout the whole video, not just a short sequence, but it'd be nice if it still regarded just one video)

I don't think I've ever seen an outstanding "sports" amv. Do they exist?
When I think of "sports" amvs, I think of anime where they play games like football, tennis, basketball, soccer, and stuff like that. I like quite a few anime that revolve around sports. I've liked vids set to these anime, but I liked them because of the character focus - not the way they used the sport. Most of them avoid any "sport/game" footage. I usually think of the sport as that unfortunate theme the editor has to work around to make an amv out of the series. You just can't sync a dramatic tennis match the way you would a dramatic sword fight. There's an inherent corn factor. Only fans of the anime will be able to overlook the inherent corn long enough to appreciate the drama.
/note - I don't count boxing as a "sport" because they hit each other, they fight, and the few boxing vids I've seen used the 'fight' scenes just like any other action footage.

You should finish that Sportscenter video.mexicanjunior wrote:I've made a few sports AMV's...I mainly just tried to keep pace with the song (as stated earlier) and use some music that fit the footage. I think what makes it memorable is creating an emotional feel to the event where viewers connect with the participants and care who ends up winning or losing...

I don't believe I'm in the minority when I say this is the best "sports" AMV I've ever seen. In fact, it's one of my favorite AMVs of all-time regardless of what the genre is.shumira_chan wrote:
Another one I enjoyed was JCD's Princess Nine video which I saw at Otakon.
Strike On
That's all I can think of off the top of my head, but I'm sure there are others.

Ah sorry, I didnt see thatPaperIsland wrote:Yes. Which is why I clarified with:sunwukong86 wrote:Uh, you know I just started a thread on action videos right?
I was hoping for specific examples, not general comments such as "explosions" or "sync."Also, please note I'm not looking for general trends that you look for in action videos (as sunwukong86's post endeavors), but for specific elements of one particular video which have made an impression on you.
