I thought about entering the contest with my own video just out of spite, but laziness took over...

I recall awhile back AquaSky saying a beta of Popularity ended up being played in a contest before its official release at a Florida con she attended.

I contacted the convention, and they assured me that it wasn't one of the winners, but if it had been, I would have received an apology and recognition, if not an equivalent of the prize, even if they had to pay out of pocket to provide me with it. This seemed good enough for me, so I didn't pursue the matter further.

So what you're saying is that before you ever released it you knew the video was a loser and you released it anyway?
