Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
 • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
 • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
 • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
 • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

Full Metal Highschool Massacre

Post by whiic » Tue Nov 13, 2007 10:25 am

I made my very first AMV last Saturday. It was also the first time I use any video editing software. It took probably around 4 hours of my time, including getting familiar with the software and restarting it fifty times. Yes, it was Windows Movie Maker. That crap kept crashing constantly.

Effects used are minimal. No transition effects between scenes (except simple fading between last scene and ending text) and only one scene with some filtering. Intentionally simplistic... and short.

It has two or three seconds of footage from DokiDoki's Hellø Fairy (which is an amv I'd recommend to almost anyone). Would he mind it? I created the amv on momentary insanity so I hadn't time to ask for a permission. (DD is credited in the ending text.)

AMV was inspired but AMV Hell -series of music videos and it is about as politically incorrect as AMV Hell is. It doesn't have excessive gore or nudity. Still not recommended for people with weak nerves or lack of sick sense of humour.

Local download will be available when kero starts working again. I've been having trouble connecting to it since I created that AMV.

I had to route the upload to FTP via a friend due to some weird connection issues but it's now available. Or it's in the queue and should be automatically added in next 5 to 10 minutes. Basically, by the time you read this and follow the linky, it should be there already.

Sorry, I skimped the etiquette thread and missed that point about not starting a thread before it's actually available.

Now, I'd like opinions. Is it any good? Or bad? At least it's evil, ne, ne?

So far there's been quite a bit of variance in stars given. I know it's a bit controversial video, so that was to be expected. I'd like to read comments of it. Even negative ones are good to receive. I didn't create the video to please everyone.

Would you like more or are you bored/appalled with all the AMV Hell inspired videos with morally numb jokes? Does this/that kind of video even work when watched separately, outside a MEP? I haven't seen short stand-alone videos like this that I made so it was a bit experimental in that aspect as well.

You can comment on video page too but I may replace the video that is downloadable as local download with a better encode... reworked from scratch with another editor and better quality footage. I didn't release the current one as beta but I did start to hate the quality of it later on.

Giving opinions here may be better as video encode quality may change some day.

Quite a running comentry you've got going here, looks like bumping to me, anyway I checked it out and it neds a lot of work, but i'll just pick on a few things:

You really should add a few transitions it makes it smoother.

I was going to rouse on you for floggin another persons amv (Hellø Fairy) but you covered yourself nicely with that disclaimer. I still think you should have gotten the dvd's and made it yourself, since this is not a king of spayn/germany entry but at least you didn't claim it was yours like many do.

It needs allot of post processing, Read ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides to find out how, this will help your visual quality and final encodes.

And lastly if you run into any problems with this shitty piece of software, there is a WMM help forum here (I'm supprised you didn't when importing Doki's vid considering the codec it uses, which is not WMM friendly)
new banzors in the making :p

"I was going to rouse on you for floggin another persons amv (Hellø Fairy) but you covered yourself nicely with that disclaimer. I still think you should have gotten the dvd's and made it yourself"

Do you say I should have obtained the same source material that was used in Hellø Fairy (i.e source of the source) and created it to look exactly like Hellø Fairy? Isn't that kinda dumb? Did I say "kinda"? I meant "very".

Whether you copy something the easy way, or do it yourself manually to exactly match the original, it'd still be equally against the copyright ... that is, if it's not Fair Use (i.e small part of something bigger, properly credited, etc.)

Or did you mean I should have made it different than original? Then how would that be a tribute/nod towards an amv I like? It wouldn't. Nor would it necessarily be even funny. Sometimes recycling old joke in new context makes the joke funnier. It is of course be an "inside" joke but that makes it even funnier to those who are "in".

"And lastly if you run into any problems with this shitty piece of software, there is a WMM help forum here"

Any problems? I can't even tell how many of them I encountered. But I don't care anymore. That was the first and probably last video I created with WMM.
