Forum rules
Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

First try - get criticisin'

Post by blabbler » Sun Nov 11, 2007 4:57 pm

Hi everyone,

This is my first stab at video editing, so I kept it short and sweet.

I enjoyed making this far more than I expected, so any feedback to help me improve will be appreciated.

PS. I know my source video was crappy quality, but i think I nearly got away with it .

Cheers,
Blabbler

Hope the link works ^

Thanks very much!

I've just been going through the excellent guides on this site; I've finally (read: much too late) realised that I used 29.97 fps footage in a 24fps project, which is why there are tons of crappy half-and-half frames.

Ah well, next one'll be cleaner....

Wow, that was so much more fun to watch than I expected! You've got a great feel to the video, and while part of me keeps whining for more, I think to make it much longer would have gotten boring, so this length is perfect. I can definitely foresee this going on a repeat for a while. Good job!

PS: While video quality's never been that big of a factor in whether or not I enjoy a video, you mentioned it specifically, so I have to say that it didn't look bad at all!

Thanks 8-)

I only managed to extract five minutes of footage from the first episode of Samurai Champloo, so I was planning on doing a build up to the big fight between the main characters, but keeping the whole vid to about 1 minute or so.
Unfortunately I had so much trouble with the mis-matched frame rates that I had to cut it short and leave it at 40s. You can see where it gets shaky when the samurai dude somersaults over his opponent - just about every frame was a combination of two overlapping frames with no smooth progression...

Argh!

Short but sweet for a first try.
Make it longer next time :)

Very good. Better than my first try (even though I used WMM) and I don't mind the length at all. 4/5

Check. Starting my next one now - i'll try and make a ludicrously long and overblown epic... say, 70 seconds?
:P

Were the edits too fast or hard to follow? I know some of it probably seems a bit more random than intended, and a lot of the beats don't sync up 100%.

Cheers,
Blabbler

.. edits do not need to be in-sync with the Audio unless its a Dance Number .. and what we are admiring is how clean you made it -- everything else is Technic. 8-)

.. I can show you what NOT to do (( hehe, I sorta specialize in That Department :P )

.. but; seriously, take it easy for a while -- we all love to enjoy our AMV's .. hammering one out after another week by week might not be a good idea around the Holidays 8-) unless, lets say, it were a Holiday AMV

.. just a thought ^____^
