Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
 • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
 • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
 • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
 • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

I could have easily fixed the resolution, but when posting onto websites such as this, I thought it was only customary to post them in 320x240 format, otherwise I could have made it bigger and further compressed it.

And in no way was I expected a 5/5 from everyone, if anyone, I just wanted some constructive criticizm, which is what I got, that's all.

And it's cool if you didn't like the video man, that's just fine, that's all you had to say.

I appreciate your reply.

most of us go for the 640x480 range... (or larger, or closest to the DVD resolution as you can get)

and there are ways to compress a video without losing so much quality and still getting a good file size such as xvid in an avi container or h.264 in an mp4 container...

for now Read ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides its there to help you... and soon the new version will be taking over.
but otherwise no stress, this isnt a streaming site so we like to see the nice shiny high resolution

Thank you, Jadd. I must have just had the wrong impression.

It overall seems people did not like the video, I'm not sure if my original post might have something to do with that, because then it would be giving me a horrible rating due to myself, but not my video, which I don't find too fair.

I worked hard on syncing it, the best I could. But perhaps the combination was just wrong. I mean, was the video really that bad? Was it really so terrible that people have bashed me with quick comments saying it's "complete crap"?

What do I need to work on? Timing? Overall song and anime combination? I just don't know. It's depressing.

I understand trying to "sell" your video but a lot of people on this forum see it as either an ego trip (which we do get a lot of those around here) or a challenge that they must prove that your vid isn't as awesome as you think it is..

its always best to just announce with less sell, and more straight forwardness about what your video is.. (use the vidid tag perhaps? - it will give all the info you need to post.)

truthfully I wouldn't worry too much about pleasing the crowd... once the announcement dies down you might get a few nice comments to filter in from people who enjoy that sort of video.

but if my experience on this site showed me anything: you can't please everyone so if you like it then thats what matters... and as long as you had fun making this then thats what matters most imho...

work harder on your next one to improve on this one, and take the advice that makes sense to you. in the end its your video and you are going to have to make the choices of what advice you want to take.

farther down the line you may end up changing your mind about some of that advice, maybe not. I know I've changed my mind on some of the crits I've received, and even if I didn't agree with them at the time I see their points now.

but maybe a tip? (or two): what a lot of people look for in amvs is more than action sync but a connection to the song as well... even some of the best action videos out there have some kind of connection between the anime and the song.

and a larger resolution is good, you have up to 100mb of space to use... I'm not saying to use all of those mbs you can, but it gives you some decent room to play with especially with advancements in compressions.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
as for the video itself, i think the only thing that was "blah" about it to me was the fact that there are so many Bleach vids to rock songs and teh fighting scenes that it kinda just turns my brain off once the video starts...
theres nothing wrong with unoriginal ideas but at the same time for a viewer that has seen so many amvs unoriginal ideas can often get boring O.o
The video was actually executed pretty good, so don't worry about your skills as an editor sucking or anything. It's just everything else about it bothered me. You have control over everything in an amv- the song, anime, concept, technical specifications etc. But it is so cliche in every way.
people want to see something different in a Bleach amv, otherwise you are just wasting their time. (people here do tend to watch a lot of amv's :/) If you can't do anything different editing-wise, at least there's the song. Which in this case... uhg. I won't pretend to know the band, but something about it tells me it's the epidemy of modern popular culture that's been shoved down your throat. When was the last time you experimented with different music? Why do you listen to music in the first place? Then again that's just personal preference, so I'm allowed to be harsh, however, I do want you to think about those questions.
Then you just killed it with technical specifications, and a bad post. *Sigh* Check out some of these: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/phpBB/v ... hp?t=59219 and you should know why the response wasn't great.
Yeah, I'm starting to understand now. Video like these are very cliche nowadays, it seems. So, I just need to dig up a different concept, something that people really haven't seen before, to draw their attention, then use music and characters that flow well with the music to create something truly enjoyable to watch. Maybe something the viewer can relate to?
I really appreciate the comments and help, guys, despite me sounding like a complete dick before, it's very appreciated. I think I know what I can do to improve now.
Jadd - your advice totally makes sense to me, and you put alot of effort into writing it out for me, I truly appreciate that, and thank you. It'll really help me out with my next creation, and to be more creative overall.
Lizard - The syncing part was truly all I wanted to really test this video out with ... and you saying I pulled it off makes my day, thank you. But the video itself is very cliche like everyone says, so, in the future I'll do what I can to make a difference. Thanks man.
