Newsletter Suggestions!

Post by Tsunami Jones » Mon Sep 17, 2007 5:53 pm

As most of you have probably noticed, there hasn't been a newsletter for the last couple of months. This is not because I want to stop it, or am tired of doing it, etc. One of the reasons is that I got slammed by some stuff (Cons) and didn't make appropriate arrangements . . . the other is that I'd like to see it have some more content, etc.

So my question to all of you is:

What would you like to see in the newsletter? What improvements do you think could be made to it?

For myself, I'd personally like to see perhaps more articles from members, and maybe I could do a thing where people send in questions and I answer them in the newsletter.

Once I have some more stuff to include, we'll relaunch it (and actually announce it on the front page, since we neglected to last time :uhoh: )

The interviews are a decent part of it. The most important suggestion: I'd recommend content that isn't something you can easily find in a thread here on the forums. Con reviews in terms of AMV-related happenings perhaps? ::shrug::

oh sorry i just thought of this:

how about "random editing tip of the month" like something short and technical (not really overly style based, but something just about every one can use?)

I personally would like to see (and perhaps do) a somewhat more intensive AMV recommendation section, or at least have something like a "featured" AMV of the month (or whatever) with a more detailed opinion than the one-line descriptions that I saw in the last couple newsletters. If this were implemented, I'd like to see this section cover AMVs by lesser-known editors. The AMVs you've suggested in the last few newsletters have been fine, but I've noticed that most of them are by better-known editors, and I'm always one for pimping the unknowns, so if I found time I'd be happy to do or help someone do this.

Forgot to mention that this should probably be in addition to your regular recs; I don't want to make it seem like I don't like those, I'd just like a little something more, and would prefer going in-depth on one video by a lesser-known.

If such more detailed opinions were to come about, I'd like to see some that read more like movie reviews we'd see in the papers. You know, something along the lines of:

"The intro is reserved mostly for scene-setting shots, with only a taste of the effects work to come. The first verse is the first real hook; the well-synched cuts and fades work with the footage to create a sense of near-constant motion, while the lyric sync is there, but kept from going overboard and distracting the viewer from the overarching flow. At about 1:00 in we have a brief release before the music comes back powerfully into the chorus, and this is where the action gets kicked up a notch, complemented nicely by the first round of real FX..."

I don't know. It's been something I've been wanting to see done for a while, but everyone who leaves ops on videos seems to direct them at the editors, not at the potential viewers.

x2 on this.

Thanks to the replies I've got in the thread I've created in General AMV,which I created few days ago - I found quite a number of good and editors. Many good videos are either : haven't been announced,or just haven't been discovered yet.

And I've got one more suggestion too : I've noticed, that lately talented editors are coming just out of nowhere! I mean - there are really many 'newbs' around here now, that are really talented, and deserve to be noticed.

My point is similar to Cracks - newsletter may contain a review of one of the new editors, who seems to have talent,or his stuff is good enough. I'll give a short example to those who maybe didn't understood me : Ramz133 - his video just amazed me,because for a first vid,his stuff was amazing! Good sync, well placed effects, etc. To be more precise - not necessary a long review,at least a short review about editors, which you think deserve to be noticed.
:D I like laughter ;DD

con reviews
Seems reasonable enough, as long as people are willing to write them up and keep them AMV-centric.

I'm not really sure on this. I don't think it'd work too well, as the only angle I could think of to review for AMVs is how easy the footage is to rip and prepare? For everything else there are already plenty of review sites elsewhere.

Sounds great.
CracktheSky wrote:Featured video of the month
I like it. If not necessarily written by one person each month, it could be a thing where members write it up and send it in.

So far so good :O . What else do you all have?
