That was interesting stuff however I'm still confused as to why you think melodic motion doesn't fall under beat sync. You syncing motion to a sound (whether short long, created by electric, wind, string, or even percussion instruments), to me that is nothing more then a form of beat sync. To me, the only 2 types of sync that everything branches from is beat sync and lyrical sync. All the branches are just different forms of type of sync its being branched from.trythil wrote:No, it's actually a real concept in music theory. I invite you to read about it. Other, more in-depth treatments of the subject can be found in music theory textbooks.Eva-Fan wrote: Melodic motion? LOL? Seriously, did you just come up with that to try and proove a point or something?
Here's an example: say you have an ascending harp line. There's many ways to map that to something visual; the first way which comes to (my) mind is to lift the camera up through a busy, enclosed space.
That by itself doesn't make for a coherent story, but it's just a unit; therefore, you take units and string them together to make a coherent whole.
I don't think it's necessary to establish any sort of really solid beat-sync pattern for that to be the primary method of synchronizing the audio and video.
Indeed, there was a video posted on CGTalk not too long ago that I think nicely illustrates the idea. The creator of the video does synchronize some actions to beats, starts of measures, etc. -- I won't say he doesn't -- but he does much more than that, and kinda shoves the beat into the background for most of the video. I don't think the bulk of what he does can easily be classified as "beat sync"; it enhances the sync between audio and video by mimicing the motion of the melody (and, for that matter, ornamentation as well.)
Take a look at http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread. ... 4&t=512674 for more information, including a download link.
And that is the point: it doesn't really fit into the strict definition of "beat sync", and yet it does contribute to sync. It's about finding a way to map motion from one domain to another.Motion being matched to a melody is most definitely NOT beat sync at all.
Besides that, I really didn’t even word the first line on my first post all that well anyway. I meant the anime should correlate with the beat of a song or lyrics in some how or some way, if it doesn't then i fail to see the point of even making it in the first place. Since I consider "Melodic motion" under the beat sync category, I wasn't limiting that out in any way.
The only limits, if any from my first statement, are the types of amv's you feel like you are watching a random TV channel and listening to music at the same time. I don't find them enjoyable in the least.
"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

No, I'll recind that, ALL MUSIC IS POETIC or rather ALL POEMS IS MUSAIC ;p Yes! I make less and less sence every time ;p. even Instrumentals have a flow, just count of the number of beats and you got your parts right there! It seems pretty obvious to me cuz I have a HUGE background of... being around music loving maniacs, but.

Well who am I to tell someone how or what to edit? At the same time, who are they to tell me I need to enjoy whatever it is they made?BasharOfTheAges wrote:Points out irony: "Do it how you want... i'm not going to watch it if it's a certain way, but have fun and do what you want - ignore the fact that the only reason you'd post it here is to get people to see it thing (else why bother wasting time with the upload process) and we're all set."dwchang wrote:But yeah, he says it pretty nicely....
People have preferences (as I have stated mine), but ultimately it comes down to this.Zarxrax wrote:But it doesn't really matter what I want, so when you make a video, make it however the hell you wanna make it, be it flashy or simple. That's all that matters.
It's all a matter of tastes and preferences. Both viewing and editing.
As for uploading it, sure folks want to share it, but again...don't expect everything to enjoy it. The community is pretty split just on this topic, I expect the same in videos. I bet there are a ton of videos people love that I hate and videos I love that folks hate.
