Xiao, before you get too far into this, I have to ask. When you say you're "compressing your clips", do you mean that you're compressing your FINAL video, or the clips you're making from the AVS files?

If it's the first option, thats fine. Just remember that when it comes to COMPRESSING your video, you only want to ever do it at the VERY END of the editing process. If you compress any of your source video BEFORE editing, you are losing a lot of quality, and that is a bad thing.

So, if you are using WMM and you need to make clips to edit with, you should use a LOSSLESS compression method, like using the Huffyuv codec or Lagarith codec. Both of these come with AMVapp.

I am glad to hear that you are indeed researching and giving the process serious thought. But as others have said, don't just skim through the guides. Really read through them and FOLLOW ALONG with what its talking about. If you're like me, you learn better from doing instead of just reading. So, the best practice is to do WHILE you read :)

yes atom, that's what i meant, lol sorry for the mix up of words.
i read in one of the guides to only compress at the end because after editing, you lose some quality.

and thanks for the link eclipse, but i feel that the link godix posted kinda covered that dilemma, but thanks a lot anyway!

Finally, my first "technical" AMV.
Now, everything i've done before this was 15 second clips just to test effects, filters, and other stuff. This is an actual 1 minute thingymabob..lol

Now i wouldn't fully call this an "AMV" but more like, "Xiao's first time trying to lip synch"

Do note: I was too lazy to re-rip the footage from my DVD, so the quality is poopie and the watermark is still there in the top left corner.... :?

So tell me what you think! Also, criticize strictly so i know what to touch up on!
I uploaded the vid to megavideo, so i hope that's alright for now...

Thanks again!

The lip sync was, in general, pretty good. You did more than just open-closed mouth movements, which made it look smoother. I wish there had been more, actually, because what you had was good and more would have potentially been funnier. But I thought that for a first try, this was actually well executed and very, very impressive

Sure. It'll work easily enough. Try the help files. When in doubt, RTFM. Read The, erm, Friendly Manual.

I refuse to believe this thread's existance it's gotta be a joke right?... this isn't really happening  a person who looks and asks if they should, before they leap ... wow so much for the annual lemming slaughter... I'm like in serious awe OO.OO *goes back to groping aes*

you should be able to compress under 100 mb by doing a 2 pass xvid or using the mp4 link godix gave you.
