Nope, work and finances have me staying in Texas this year. Hope everyone has fun though and you take home the AWA 2007 Main Event bracelet...

I'm interested but it'll depend on the timing ... (as in I'll be off on a holiday from sept till October sometime) >.<
Hey! I did say:
Douggie wrote:It would certainly be cool to have a USA vs. Europe (or Africa/Asia/whatever continent) best editor as a final round!
But to be honest, aside from that I don't know any South-American and Asian editors. Well, there are those Japanese MAD-editors, but I don't think they hang out on the .org, or do they?
Niotex wrote:I edit slow.. so you'd probably kick the living shit out of me.
Well, I edit slow too, so it would be an equal match! I just need to learn that I shouldn't press the "enter"-button so much!

I guess there's only one way to find out what would happen!

So I just saw some of the Iron Chef clips (it's some impressive stuff that comes out in 2 hours of editing!) and read the thread of the last Iron Chef compo. I've got some questions about Iron Cheffing:
- What can we expect of music in general? Somewhat like last time or will there be more "funny" or "experimental" songs (or whatever else is out ther). It seemed like hlaf of the songs were instrumentals last time :D.
- Is the music chosen randomly or more on basis of what would be interesting for the editors to edit to?
- In how far is it allowed to edit the audio? I mean, not just filters, but also cutting up and rearranging, etc. For example, would it be allowed to distort the whole song so it sounds like a bunch of noise? Or add your own singing/beatboxing to it? (not that I would ever do that!
- Is it allowed to put stuff into your editing timeline BEFORE the actual time of editing? I mean, I always sort scenes in a seperate timeline and it would certainly save some time if this was allowed (some make clips and sort them in seperate directory which is the same, but done in a different way). I know, noone would notice if you do, but hey, honor system!
- In conventions you can see the Iron Chef editors live while working. Do we get to see some hot sexy editing on webcam? :D I guess it won't happen, but it would certainly be interesting to see all the editing happen!

Well, seems quite hard to edit stuff in two hours, guess I should learn to switch-and-bait, shortcut keys, 3-point-editing and use my JogShuttle for once!

BTW. The logo looks so much better than last time!

I'm all for an Iron Editor World Championship

If anything fails, putting the country flag or nationaitly of each editor to their name / avatar would be a nice touch :)

Myself and some friends (those NOT in the tournament) choose all of the songs. For the first round, I typically prefer to pick shorter songs that are "vague" enough to be edited to using a wide variety of sources (though that doesn't mean that they'll all be instrumental and there will still be some strange/funny songs in round one). After round one the song choices will begin to get a bit more experimental. I don't worry about song length after round one really (since it's not a requirement that you finish the song anyway).
Douggie wrote:- Is the music chosen randomly or more on basis of what would be interesting for the editors to edit to?
If you mean, are the songs GIVEN to specific matches based off of what the song is and whose editing, than no, it's random. Basically, before the tournament begins, I determine ALL of the songs and assign them to each match number. Then once the bracket is created (which also uses a random number scheme), I can then see who has what song. Doing it any other way would introduce bias.

You can edit the audio however you want, except that you can't ADD any other audio (meaning, you can't play the original song for one second and then just "edit another song into it", and that includes your own voice or any other sound effects). But as far as cutting, filtering, as long as I can tell it was the same audio source, you can do whatever.

When you get your 24 hours to prepare your source, you can prep it however you normally do it. That means, if you use Magix or whatever, you can feel free to sub-clip your source (which many editors do prior to editing as it is). Same goes for sub-clipping within Premiere. If you normally have another timeline with random scenes on it, that's fine.

Heh, if anybody wants to broadcast themselves via webcam, that's totally up to them, as long as we can't see their screen (remember, it's blind judging, we're not supposed to know the competitors source). During the first tournament a lot of people talked about doing this, but nobody did :o The thing is, actually WATCHING people edit (even if you can see their screen, is actually... pretty boring. Hence why when doing the actual Iron Editor event, they have other events and games going on to entertain the audience.
