what makes a good amv is subjective to who you ask

you make action amvs yet i find pure action amvs to be really dull... there has to be something fun or interesting about it and not just random fighting imho

theres the basics:
1 learn how to compress so your video is good quality
2 don't use hard subbed footage (or downloaded fansubs)
3 use a high quality audio source (such as a CD)
4 know how to time the scenes and don't let clips drag too long. (i wanna see some editing not a video where they just pasted some audio on to it)

but most of that is just presentation: what makes a good amv is back in that subjective area again... so the answer "what you think makes a good amv" is a perfectly acceptable one...

you can be at it for years and never rise from below average. Time isn't what matters, it's effort.
Plus talent, taste in music and anime, and creativity. Mere effort is not enough. You can work forever on a crappy idea, and the best it will ever be is a crappy idea with good execution.

It's been beaten down again and again, even in this thread, but sometimes it can't be said enough. Do what you want to do. Make what you want to make. If you don't like what you made, why should anyone else?

It doesn't matter what anime or music you use, how long you've been at it, how many people think you are teh bomb, what programs you use. If you don't like what you are doing, if you're not passionate about it, why do it?

At no point does anyone come up to you and say 'Congrats, you're a pro. Here's your fangirls. Try not to go to far, some of them aren't of legal age'. If you define success by anything we'll tell you then you're guaranteed failure.

Avoid Beta Testing at all cost, all you get is a bunch of people with their ideas to shwere they are trying to make you edit THEIR video rather than yous. But if you do beta-test only take at least half of what they say for granted.
