While I think that early beta submissions would be more trouble than they're worth, an "intent to enter" I agree would be a good methodology to adopt and I tried to encourage folks to register early. However, from the trends I've seen that would probably only cause us to continue to overestimate the number of discs required as people withdraw videos as the final deadline approaches.

Regarding packaging, you could easily tell many of the veterans from the newcomers but even still there were some issues. We can try in the future to be a little more specific in the packaging requirements to prevent getting so many scratched discs and have been discussing some other potential changes based off this year's experience. If it really means that much to you and you're going to be at the con, you can have your two discs (yes, yours was one of the bad burns) back.

Kamaan. Two or three DVD blanks cost next to nothing these days. Postage both ways is much more.

One idea for the future could be that participants could choose between hard copies and downloading. This would save time and money, and would probably result in a higher video turnout as well.

no, like I said, I don't mind donating the discs lol it's just that I live halfway around the world, paid for shipping of 5 discs and only got two. For me, it's not the action that matters, it's just the thought.

Basically I just wanted to bust your chops lol.

I was a little underwhelmed by the videos when I first went through the discs. However, I've found myself playing many of them in the background now. I'm especially fond of the videos that used old school anime. :) My favourite of the bunch was... well let's just let the notes do the talking:

Stuff arrived. I haven't watched every video in full length yet, but got a good picture of the contest. Of all AWA Pro contests I have participated in, 2004, 2006 and this year, this is definetely the weakest one :/
Still, I'm not really dissapointed since I kinda expected it to be and still found a few videos I like alot which include:
#5, GitsP, Psytrance, Effects and Action, how could I not like it? :P
#16, One Fine Day, So upbeat, so much fun, an anime I love, music I like... yeah. Propably my favourite out of the whole contest.
#17, d!gital me, Best and only horror video? Despite the concept kinda being overused, I loved it, also because it reminds me of the style of an editor whose videos inspirated me years ago, and I wonder if it's by him :D
#42, The Checkered Flag. Modern Talking belongs to the gayest bands in music history, still I liked this alot since I'm a huge motorsports fan. It had some nice simple editing and lots of racing action, the editor managed very well to keep the motion high.

I also liked #4, #15, #19, #20 and #31 and will definetely be handing them out nomination and votes. And #40 deserves a special price :O

Sephiroth wrote:I rather enjoyed the oldboy video, the live action vids seem pretty good this year. Walking on sunshine seemed alot better exicuted before the sex 'came into it' (bad play on words i know).

Comedy Seems like a stronger group of vids this year, code monkey, die hard, bit part demon, and others that i can't quite remember. anyways gotta go back to work on Call Of Duty 4 now.

I really liked #37. I wasn't sure what all was going on with the lipsync and whatnot (and some of the lyric sync made me giggle) but it grew on me really quickly. Could be the song, I especially love 1:28-1:40. The synced guitar "screams" made me laugh so hard, it was great.

Though i have nothing to do with this... just throwing out an idea... ISOs (or any more preferred format i guess) of the finished discs wouldn't be that hard to do if you want to go that route.

oh! and I have one more thing to say about the infamous video 15, next year I am sending in my lossless encode!! That video hits 10mbps! the ones that were ftped in are obvious cuz they don't get much higher than 7! lol

*Just keep that in mind, #15 just looks REALLY awesome.

/spurring on debate

Yeah, I agree the hentai one worked better before the hentai and I cannot take the Bitches one seriously, all I think of is the Pokemon video!

Oh, the one fine day video actually looks pretty familar...

Cowboy Andy is a SAMURAI! ;p... but I'll let it slide, he is the greatest cowboy ever -_-
