Just to respond to Arigatomina:

Since the videos are all hosted on j00t00b, spreading the video by word of mouth like this is letting the video win by merit. When Metro linked me to the video, I said to myself "This is some dope-ass shit", so I linked all my buddies to it, who will hopefully think the same thing and do the same. If I had thought "This is some weak-ass shit," I would have just closed it and never even given it a second thought.

Conversely, the way the j00t00b commnity works, one of the "celebrities" could shit on her webcam and place armpit-produced fart-imitations for five minutes, and rack up a million and one hits just because of the name attached to it. Because Metro (presumably) doesn't have that luxury, he has to get it networked by merit, not by namesake.

Anyways, the point is that if I had a gun and a lot more money, j00t00b would have a lot less video-bloggers and a lot more Third Strike match videos.

To be fair though, most of the people that "make it big" on youtube do it by gaming the system often enough to get onto the top lists - from there they continue to get clicks from legit sources - the people that only click on the most viewed lists. It's gotten so bad businesses are using it as a model for advertisement (though this particular business has decided it would rather that not happen and has gone so far as to threaten to press charges on individuals caught doing that despite the fact that their case would hold no legal water and they couldn't find out who did it anyway - they don't have access to the database). Youtube doesn't really prevent such things - how else would you explain why HP spoiler videos were raking in 800,000+ hits in a matter of hours from when they were first put up.

most of the people who make it "big on there" also get their hits from being featured on the main page... but then again a lot of the stuff on the featured page i would have never found on my own.

also suck up to youtub<s></s>e = instant feature

and as for "gaming" the most discussed list... i have found that "responding to flamers" will also get you on that list... especially if youre retarded enough to take "hater bait" and run with it...

really the flamers and "haters" on there help create those "most discussed list celebs".. but then again they wouldnt be there if they didnt respond either. O.o

Nessie, so are alot of other topics that get locked before they get this far...
This is not a shot at the mod's just an observation and I really don't care for the stupid "name one" game.
For what it's worth I'll have my sister pimp to her furries which is a different contact list than my own (who have probably already seen it).
But Mitch/Metro, this would have gotten lots more hits on it's own had it been called Narutosomething :P
new banzors in the making :p

I didn't know that. Can we get a link to the actual contest? Or more information about it and how it works? Is it a regular contest that editors (inspired by this thread) can enter in the future?

I know. I figured that was why no one else had said it yet. I don't particularly care. I'm all for being more lenient to org members who want to share their non-amvs Tube videos outside of the Donator forum, as long as it applies to all of them.

Isn't this cheating? What's the point if your work doesn't win on its own merit?
Pimping his video here is no more cheating than if someone asked on another site for people to op their AMV hosted here. It's not done all that often but there's no real problem with it. As far as the point, it's money I think.
The video is hosted on THAT site, which isn't supposed to be linked to here. And it doesn't have any anime in it. Why was this thread allowed in Gen AMV? What does it have to do with amvs aside from using this forum to give a tube video an unfair advantage over its competitors?
That is a fair point. To give credit though, the usual complaint against linking to the tube is that A) it's by someone too lazy/ignorant of the org to host their video here or B) no one wants the org to be associated with the biggest copyright violating site around. Metro's pimp doesn't have any copyright issues and it's something that he couldn't host on the org so neither problem exist. Also the live action video thread doesn't directly relate to AMV's either and there have been several announcement forum threads for non-amvs done by AMVers so there is precedent. Personally I don't see a problem with an occasional 'look what else I do besides AMVs' as long as it's not frequent and it's by someone where there's a reasonable chance the forum members might be interested. But yeah, I'm kinda surprised myself. I expected this thread to be locked the moment a mod saw it.

I agree, Skittles got far more attention than it deserved as did DTSEM. Oh, wait, we're talking about *TUBE* celebrities not *ORG* celebrities. Sorry, my mistake. It's so hard to tell the difference between how the two sites social circles work that I got confused.

Welcome to the old days of the org, before they fixxed the op system. You've been on the org long enough to notice that I'm sure. It's politics and popularity that runs youtube ne more :(. Not trying to correct you or anything Ari, but just stating something similar thats almost funny. Plus I can guarantee to you thats what his opposers are doing. I've had a band on Myspace pm me to vote for their band for being the best at some contest. Popularity will take over credibility once more.

Well, it was a good attempt, but unless the top 4 vote getters get caught for gaming the system, it seems decided already - they have a 10k hit margin and I'm sure unless they all get more blatant in a bid to beat each other out and get nabbed it's too far gone. Hope they realize how awesome your vid is though.=/

So what ever happened to this? I see 2 of the 4 that were above you ended up getting called out on copywrited content, another had 90+% of their hits from a google-based page (obvious gaming there), and there's like no word on their official blog or the blog of the "review" company that had like 10 articles on the contest. Did it fizzle because it had only a couple of legit entrants?
