You guys suck at discussing anything that isn't flying shapes or stupid flashing colors
AMVs are dead and discussion about them getting any better is wholly pointless
Nerds cutting anime up to radio rock is not art, never will be and it's laughable that any of you label it as such
Close and delete this pointless topic.

Yeah, let's not feed the troll.
As for myself, I did do a small double take at my join date just recently, and it's hard to believe that almost five years have gone by... but I'm not really burnt out by any means, despite my waning interest in anime itself. Other stuff in life takes over and I get lazy every once in a while, but I still have ideas and I still like AMVs. Between editing, watching, chatting with other members, and making various other contributions to the site, I think there's enough to keep me here for a while yet.

You noobs
...
Anyways. I'll never retire from AMV's. There'll likely come a point where I don't make AMV's anymore, but saying "I retire." puts a stigma on me that says "Nope, you may want to do a video, but ya can't, cause you already told everybody that you won't." Screw that.
I will admit however that even though I am still passionate about the hobby and I am constantly getting ideas and getting re-motivated to do these ideas, I have been giving serious thought to my future (career-wise) and thinking about spending months of my free-time working on one huge kick ass AMV that granted, I would be very proud of and enjoy, but couldn't benefit me at all in a real world job scenario (I couldn't put it in my professional portfolio). It just feels like all that time would be better spent working on a huge kick ass non-AMV project that COULD benefit me portfolio-wise. So.. I don't know.
And as David said, get into CGTalk... Though I certainly wouldn't say screw the Org. I still love this place and I still love AMV's. Hell, I still love (some) ANIME :O How often do you hear a "veteran" AMV'er say that? o_o Though admittedly 95% of my AMV ideas stem from love of music, but regardless

It's fun to see how this post got interpreted. O:
I agree with a lot of the posts here, but it's kinda all voer the place in interpretation that I don't really know how to respond.
Let's see... in order of post perhaps?
Infinity, I'm trying, but I can't get away O:
Jaddzia, yea I don't think I'll ever get AMVing out of my system
Otohiko, maybe I'm just waiting for something big to happen.. not really making a big deal out of it, just nostalgia/boredom mix. |:
Kionon, indeed.
Zephyr, I'm taking your 'beyond AMVs' comment as more of a doing something different comment. But yea, I do feel that sometimes maybe to focus on a different hobby, but that takes effort. |:
MJ, nope, sorry pal.
Qyot, yea maybe perhaps that's the case.. just having seen so much, but it's cool though so, I always come back for more
Arigatomina, that sounds about right.
Zarx, yea.. that's kind of what I don't really understand either..
Judge, maybe, but there could be circumstances in which it was necessary.. nothing I really know of though.
Devil, indeed.
Mewn, I disagree.
trythil, someday.. in the rain. |:
Powerteam, yea.. life certainly gets in the way, but how could one really say that they are leaving for sure unless they actively avoid it? I guess if you were never really that all into it to begin with. |:
Niotex, edit something now O:
Melee, yea.. though meeting new peoples is always cool.
Ingow, I never learned to skateboard |":
code, yea, i'm not too sure about the reference.
Esrhan, the fame thing could be true, though I guess I should've left years ago - seems I missed my train. |:
Greggus, oh I definitely agree with the AMV world still being young, but even then it's had a long history already, at least for me. As for that art thing, well, I'm not touching that |:
Dropouter, I didn't say I was retiring, and nobody really 'should' care if I did anyway. The point was just an open discussion on AMVs and the people who've left the community or have thought about doing so. As for the art thing, art is art. |:
downwithpants, itd be great to collect pension O:
Scintilla, this is your fault that I made this post. You linked Aluminum's Silence video and I kinda went from there. Way 2 go
Jasper, that's good to know O:
Bradom, this is partly your fault with your CG-talk. WAY2GO.
I think that covers it.. for now |:

Editing AMVs is just like alcoholism. You never really cure it; it just goes into remission for long periods of time. Of course, once you catch a simple whiff of the offending addiction, it's back to square one.

I always assumed that that was why he eventually (around 2003?) adopted the posting style we've known him for for the past few years -- short, silly, and not big on substance.BasharOfTheAges wrote:Koop, do you honestly expect people to correctly interpert anything you post anymore?
That is, except when he actually had something serious to say.
