High Resolution/High Definition AMVS?
Okay, guys, I have a challenge for you. I just got this sweet new monitor... And every AMV I have yet watched looks like crap on it (this includes my own as well). It's designed for HD content, so most AMVS of even "good" or "great" quality look just ridiculous. It was kind of a let down, actually... :/
So, I was wondering, has anyone produced really high quality (high resolution/high definition) AMVs? I would love to watch them.
And if there isn't, is it just because you can only do so much with 720x480 source footage?

Wow! This kinda sounds like me with my monitor. Though I guess since I'm more of a graphics than and AMV person, it has enabled me to be more anal with my graphics (like banners.), but at the same time, it makes me be more anal with everyone else's too.
(On topic, have no clue. I've just learned to ignore the AMV anal badness that my monitor seems to want to show me. I've seen a couple that had decent quality on this monitor, but I can't remember what they were.

There really are very few. Doing a quick search of 1280 and 848 in comments for Super Search, there are two 1280x720 videos (Koop's Skittles and greenjinjo's Darkness Dueling) and 6 videos with 848x480 versions (krop's Nowhere, Pwolf's Mitternacht, Taruto Chan's Kastles of Sand, and DaCoolGohan's Epiphany, Psychosis, and Let Mercy Come).
There might be more out there without those numbers in their descriptions, but probably not too many.

For the second question (forgot bout it, heh) I'd say that is one reason. Another would be file size, creators not wanting their viewers to have to download a large file. Another thing to consider is the amount of time it takes to render. Not everyone has powerful rig that can bust these out quickly. For some, it takes to days to render and encode normal 640x480 videos. Would take close to double (ok, I don't know this, I'm just guessing) for a 1280x720 (or whatever) version. Probably few other reasons, or of course I could be totally wrong

I had actually already tried this approach. I just figured since resolution isn't often mentioned in the searchable categories, that maybe I had missed some.WC Annihilus wrote:There really are very few. Darkness Dueling was one of the first videos I played to test the monitor (I was part of the beta team and am mentioned in the video) as I figured it might be the best I'd have.
So far, Brad's new vid looks pretty darn tasty on my monitor too.

Both of which the sources were not HD, just upscaled SD. Though the effects Jay did are "HD".WC Annihilus wrote: (Koop's Skittles and greenjinjo's Darkness Dueling)
Little to no anime shows have a significant gain from the high resolution. So same goes for the AMVs made of those.

Wait... you mean he made a video in HD, with a series that had an HD source available, and he didn't use the HD source?JCD wrote:Both of which the sources were not HD, just upscaled SD. Though the effects Jay did are "HD".WC Annihilus wrote: (Koop's Skittles and greenjinjo's Darkness Dueling)
