I don't know about a review, but;
I liked it. I thought that while it wasn't as dramatic as some of his other movies, it really didn't need to be.
That sounds like a pretty decent synopsis.animenfo.com wrote:Mimi wo Sumaseba, which literally means If You Listen Closely, tells the story of Shizuku, a junior-high school student who is struggling to find out who she is. The movie takes you on a journey through her imagination and daily life as she makes decisions that will ultimately decide her future.

Build a man a fire, and he will be warm for a night. Set a man on fire, and he will be warm for the rest of his life.

Miyazaki did not direct this one, although he wrote and storyboard-ed it.

The cover art is deceptive since this is not a fantasy film (except for that one scene). There's very little action and only light drama. It's about a teenager having some thoughts about what to do with her life, set (I assume) in a typical Japanese city & family scenario. That other review calls it "struggling", but that really suggests more drama than you'll actually find in this movie.
I liked it with only one great big condition: I don't like John Denver's music and especially that one song the movie uses. It's - how to put this - majorly annoying. In short, hate the song, but the movie is fine.
And the cat is cute, too.

Ghibli released another movie called The Cat Returns which they say is related to WotH, but is not a sequel or anything like that.

yep they have no relation whatsoever
Definitely. The drawing style for the Cat's Return (is that what the english title is called?) is different from the other Ghibli movies.angelx03 wrote:I'll check out Whisper of the Heart when Disney starts hurrying up and release the DVD.![]()
On a side note, is it just me or the character designs for the Cat's Return are A LOT more eye-candy than the usual designs?
Whisper of the Heart. I love that movie. Defintely one to watch. Like what TaranT said, it has little action, but the other parts fill it in to make it a just as great anime. Its about a girl named Shizuku(at least thats how it is in the original japanese movie unless US productions changed it

There's more of a relation between the two than you think. Both Mimi wo Sumaseba and Neko no Ongaeshi are based off of works by Aoi Hiiragi. And, in a sense, two of the characters from Whisper of the Heart show up in The Cat Returns (with different character designs, as has been noted earlier).AMVfreak wrote:Ghibli released another movie called The Cat Returns which they say is related to WotH, but is not a sequel or anything like that.

Oh I meant storywise, not Studio Production wise, character design, etc.There's more of a relation between the two than you think.
