Oh my, oh my...where to begin...
First off the bat, would prob. have to say the original Mobile Suit Gundam...don't let the dated animation throw you, if you look past that, you find the show is actually quite good (and the character generally seem considerably more human than the cast of Wing...to the point where, when you see even some nameless grunts die, you can't help but feel bad (as opposed to the Leo pilots in Wing who are prettymuch gone in a flash...)
Plus, this helps set the ground work for a majority of the Gundam series out there...
Available in the US: Yes
Gundam 0080: War In The Pocket - If you ever felt sad during Wing, the ending of this will push you to tears. While it's light on mecha, it more than makes up for it in characters as well as a quite effective story showing the horrors of war from a child's perspective.
Available in the US: Yes
Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam - The next step in the main story after MSG. The animation is smoother, and the storyline considerably darker, as we see the universe previous established in MSG turned on it's ear as the new oppresive forms comes from the Federation branch, The Titans.
Available in the US: Not yet, coming next year
Gundam: Char's Counterattack - Good animation, good soundtrack, and, while rushed, a decent close-off to Gundam's greatest rivalry (Amuro vs Char.)
Available in the US: Yes

I liked 0080, I found it to be a rather good series (it influenced my sn after all). I liked how it showed it from the eyes of a young boy who sees war as something exciting and heroic....at the beginning at least.Heero_Yuy84 wrote: Gundam 0080: War In The Pocket - If you ever felt sad during Wing, the ending of this will push you to tears. There was only one thing that detracted from it and I must say it was rather silly. It was mainly how the main char wore a sweater with shorts I mean who does that....I don't know why but for some reason that drove me crazy

I have seen Gundam Wing, Gundam X and some of Gundam 0083. Gundam Wing has the best storyline/concept by far (but this is just my opinion of course). Gundam X is more for the romantic/comedic types. 0083 is short and just more action oriented. It really depends on what you like. I'm the thought provoking kind, so Gundam Wing is my favorite so far. The Endless Waltz Special just extends the main ideas from the series, but is oriented for the action type. I think all were good in their own aspects.

Heh heh...yeah, I'll concede Al's dress sense definitely left a lot to be desired (my older siblings and I took to jokingly referring to him as 'That kid with the hotpants' at one point)J-0080 wrote:There was only one thing that detracted from it and I must say it was rather silly. I personally find Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory as good, if not better than Gundam Wing. Stardust Memory hits on the same philosophical/moral stuff, but more on the perspective of a soldier's duty, rather than the nature of man. Also, Gundam 0083 covers more of the tech side, when they introduce the GP-01 and GP-02, the Universal Century's first "true" Gundams. That's the one plus side to the UC saga: they go far more in-depth with all the tech stuff, which keeps Trekkies like me working out blueprints on our free time.
Also, Kou's character (I think that's how you spell his name) is about as whiny as Relena or Amuro at first, but he grows up a helluva lot faster than the two of them combined. Besides, since he's so obsessed with mobile suits, he's someone I can relate to (he's just like Kensuke from Eva, to the extent he pays more attention to the actuators in a GM's left index finger than the giant rack on all the hot Federation chicks).

I'm biased since I could never sit through the other Gundam sagas - and I was hooked on Gundam Wing from the first episode I saw (episode 5 for the curious). I did *try* to watch 0083 and another one since my friend said they were good, but they just didn't hold my attention at all. I blame the animation in part, but also that the characters didn't catch me after one or two episodes - with GW I was caught quickly - on almost all the characters (I hated Wufei, but grew out of that eventually).
What I like about the movie is that it gave more background for the pilots - covering things in the manga that weren't given in the series. It just made a nice 'tie up' for the characters and the story as a whole - an epilogue if you will. I don't get that often in movies - this one comes after the series and actually holds to that without plot continuity getting in the way (unlike other movies I've seen that were either AU spins or placed outside of the series timeline).
I like GW because it's complete - and the movie just adds to that.

Gundam X, IMO, is the best gundam series ever, I have the whole series... Have had it for about 3 years, now...(Not a US release).
Anyway, only a smal percentage of GX is a romance comedy. And that would be just about the first 5 episodes.
Probably the only eps you saw... =\
Anyway, if you liked GW and EW, you'll like GX.
I personally love GW and EW, have hated all the other gundam series except fot GX...
If that made any sense, use it to your advantage.
