I've heard a lot of new bands since I got here (Most of them actually local and in the Shimokitazawa scene), but this is a somewhat popular band that doesn't seem to have made much inroads into the US, mainly because they've yet to do an anime theme.
Ellegarden is along the lines of New Found Glory, Blink 182, etc. Pop-punk/skate music with slightly whiny vocals and catchy lyrics. Several albums and maxi-singles, a couple DVDs, and a new album that's coming out this week.
I first heard them covering "Funny Bunny" by The Pillows, as part of Synchronized Rockers (a Pillows tribute album that came out in the Fall.) I finally took the time to get one of their CDs (Pepperoni Quattro) and was pretty impressed. One of the interesting things is that while the band members are all Japanese, a good number of their songs are in English or a combination of Japanese and English (and no, it's not Engrish, at least I didn't notice it).
<a href="http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/list_from_code ... CDJapan has all of their CDs with some audio samples. Their official website is in Japanese, but don't let that stop you from checking it out and gleaning what you can from it.

Re: J-Rock Pimping: Ellegarden
AHHHH!!! : o
So Ellegarden was known by someone here. I am a huge Ellegarden fan. : )
I have *also come to known Ellegarden through the Synchronized Rockers album with their "Funny Bunny" cover, and have ever since fell in love with them. The vocals are, in my opinion, amazing and very catchy.
I have 5 of their albums, and I would have to say Pepperoni Quattro was definitely an awesome album released. Meloditic and emotional. Every one of their song seems to have its own unique little "something"- there really isn't a song that I did not enjoy. In fact, I can apply that to all the albums I have, their songs are all good music to my ears. I highly recommend all of you to listen to Ellegarden and buy their albums.
Ironically, as you said, their english is very good. In fact, most of their songs use the English language fluently and accurately from the earliest of their album, "Ellegarden."
On a more AMV-type-note, I've thought several times of making an AMV to one of their songs, but have unfortunately never had the jumpstart to begin editing.

That is great news! I haven't been updating with Ellegarden's site for awhile during my Quattro listening period- thanks a lot. I will definately check out "Riot on the Grill."Several albums and maxi-singles, a couple DVDs, and a new album that's coming out this week.

Re: J-Rock Pimping: Ellegarden
I'm actually not sure what I think of the English songs. The problem is that they sound as annoying as any American punk/pop band (Blink182, NFG, etc) when they sing in english...AMVfreak wrote:Ironically, as you said, their english is very good. I've thought of an AMV or two as well, but I have other plans for J-Rock videos first...

So yeah, since my initial post I've picked up BRING YOUR BOARD!! as well as DON'T TRUST ANYONE BUT US. Ellegarden's sound really grows on you, but I still greatly prefer their Japanese songs over their American songs. Check it out, people!
Oh, and the new album is out on 4/20, the day after I leave the country. Sadness.

By the way, how much were the prices of those two albums over there at Japan? Those albums are a few years old, and I'm curious as to how much those two were priced at the stores.

Roughly 2500yen each, but I'd filled a Tower point card so I got Bring Your Board for free (well, I'd had to spend 50,000 yen to get to that point, but...)AMVfreak wrote:By the way, how much were the prices of those two albums over there at Japan? Also, I got Butterfly (off Pepperoni Quattro) as a ringtone. Go me.
