Otakon Finalist Update (OFFICIAL):A word from Antonio
Hi--first off, I want to apologize for being absent for the past few weeks or so, I was working on-site on the set of "Poultrygeist! Attack of the Chicken Zombies" (a Troma production). After returning from the set, I took a week off specifically to address the AMV contest.
Before I continue--we've received more showing time, so we're adding one entry per category (so now you can vote for one of six entries per category, instead one of five). Votes were recounted to determine these new entries, and also to ensure fairness in the selection of the original five per category. I want to remind everyone that the voting process is *blind*: no mention is made of the creator of any video. The only thing that appears on the screening ballots are the name of the AMV, and the title of the song it's set to. This way there can be no bias towards a favorite AMV creator, or toward or against race, gender, faith, or any other personal qualifier.
After the recount, NO FINALISTS CHANGED. I want to make that clear as well. The updated entries will be listed at the end of this post and a
list of the over flow schedule will follow later tonight.
Also, some people were concerned about the fact that the AMV panel is scheduled at the same time as one of the AMV screenings. Due to scheduling conflicts beyond our control, this couldn't be avoided, but I'd like to point out that there are AMV screenings both before and after the panel itself.
One more thing: I'd like to thank Jason Marin and John Westerbrook for all of their invaluable help in making the Otakon 2005 AMV contest happen.
Once again, I apologize for being a bit out of touch. When you're working on-set in Buffalo, there's not much time left for things other than making a movie. Thank you for your patience and consideration. I look forward to seeing you this weekend!
Take care,
Antonio

Re: A word from Antonio: IMPORTANT UPDATE
I wish I could have gotten my reaction to this on video when I first read it on the mailing list. OMG, this totally has made my night.kisaragi wrote:Before I continue--we've received more showing time, so we're adding one entry per category (so now you can vote for one of six entries per category, instead one of five).

Squee! I was hoping this one would make it... Mamimi needs more good character profiles like this one, say I.kisaragi wrote:9. Mamimi • Dan Persons • Museum of Idiots

(Well, I said I was gonna...)
I just have one little nit to pick -- "for Osaka" should be in parentheses, not quotation marks. Thanks!

I don't know how I read this one as "The Significance of <i>Sorcery</i>" at the prescreening...kisaragi wrote:28. Signifi cance of the Scenery • Doki Doki Productions

(I guess there wasn't an age limit on videos this year?)
But, um, just to be sure, is this also the actual screening order for the contest?
A re-congratulations to all the finalists! Best of luck, everyone!

Looks like an even better matchup now.
Although having AMV_4000 and Pilk in it scares me a little.

Ooh. I'm batting zero for Otakon, even with the additional entry. On a brighter note, YAY SCINTILLA FOR YOUR DDR VIDEO TO MAKE THE FINALISTS' LIST!
This'll be fun to watch. Even if certain videos entered in this year's contest are almost one year old. Hee.
If not Friday night, hope to see some of you Saturday.

Well, like I implied, a certain video is over a year and a half old, so.Brakus wrote:This'll be fun to watch. Even if certain videos entered in this year's contest are almost one year old. Hee.
