How about, to perhaps encourage those last minute entries, a count, or I guess a percentage so as not to spoil the guessing contest, by category of what you've got so far?

That's doable.

Serious/Dramatic: 32.5%
Romantic/Sentimental: 15%
Action: 25%
Upbeat: 10%
Comedy: 10%
Musical Parody/whatever it's called: 2.5%
Uncertain/No Category yet: 5%

I'll say right now, that there is a chance the Musical Parody category may need to be recombined with comedy (where it originally was split from) if it shows little or no gain over the following week. All entrants in that category have been made aware of this possibility and there have been no objection as yet.

Also, as a departure from the balanced contest we typically do (ie: each category in the contest has the same number of entries), we may in fact populate each contest category based on the overall percentage of videos submitted per category (ie: Serious/Dramatic having a larger share of the overall submissions would have more entries present in the contest than Upbeat which comprises a much smaller percentage of the total submissions).
Of course this will all be dependent on how the overall makeup of the contest changes between now and next week, as well as if the rest of the AMV staff believes it is indeed the better route to go.
Personally I prefer a balanced contest, however as you can see the submissions are not evenly spread among the categories (not even close), so perhaps this is an option worth considering. I know it has been recommended in the past, and may indeed provide a more enjoyable/entertaining contest for all, which is why I am willing to entertain the idea.

It's always a very popular category to submit to.
Personally I find that Serious/Dramatic videos tend to be the easiest to create (at least ideas for them come to me very easily), and I'd suspect I'm not the only one who that is true for. I've never been dumped though, so it can't be that. 8-)

At seemingly any con, not just Otakon. And Comedy (or "Humorous/Satirical", I should probably say) is the category that contest coordinators are always hollering for more of as the deadline approaches.
