Had to leave the con early, right after the amv contest screening, so I don't know who won yet. They divided videos into four categories with the bulk of entries in romance/sentimental, some in action, and just a few each in comedy and "other". You could also vote on best technical and best overall.

The screening suffered from some technical problems. They were driving it from a laptop using Nero and the first two videos were shown at 1:1 aspect ratio. They then fiddled with the settings for a while and got them more or less right but for the rest of the screening the rightmost 10% of the video was cut off. Also there was noticeable pixellation and noise at times. The audio was generally OK but at uneven levels, and for one of Kestrel's videos (Peace and Love Incorporated) the sound was so degraded that I wondered if she had sent the low-quality mono mix that she uses for internet distribution by mistake. Also the showing was not in the same order as the ballot sheet.

That being said, the videos themselves got a very good reception. Onna is a very small con but the video room the contest played in was packed. This is a kind of venue where people will watch a Sailor Moon video with rapt attention and there will be no groans or catcalls from the audience as you might get at a big con. Likewise for romantic / sentimental material (which dominated the screening) as well as shounen or shoujo ai themed videos (obviously). For example it was an ideal audience for Fungie's Mari Mite video, as that series was being talked up a lot and had six episodes screened at the con.

As with any smaller contest with no real pre-screening the quality was sometimes hit or miss but there were still a number of memorable entries. There was yet another technically awesome French amv (Un autre jour), a nice Boys over Flowers vid from Meri done somewhat in the style of her ROS2 segment, Mike and Meri's Kare Kano vid Fake, an intense dramatic Utena TV video, a comic crossover vid Weekend Getaway, a new (to me) Rose of Versailles amv by anneke, and several others I'm just blanking on due to lack of sleep.

They should have announced the results by now so hopefully someone will post them soon. As it happens I didn't get to see my own RoV video screened since it was non competing and they were only showing those today. :\

Thanks for the recap. The Dramatic Utena TV series one was most likely mine as well. The RoV is one I've had for over a year, but been holding and had in hiding (wasn't shown to the public at all), waiting for Shoujo-con, as I made it specifically for Shoujo-con. So I was very happy to finally get to send it to the con I had planned on sending it to (sort of...different convention but connect to shoujo-con, and I had waited long enough.)
